Hi, my name is Cathy and my husband, Ron, has been diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder - depressed type AND Psychotic Depression. He's been seeing a psychiatrist for the last 13 years (he's on his 2nd one and she's better than his first one) plus a psychologist for about
a year, but until recently was never diagnosed... just given meds to treat symptoms. He takes Geodon (80mg in the morning and 160mg at suppertime) and 100mg Provigil in the morning. He also had a Neuro-Psych test done 2 years ago which shows him functioning at a mildly retarded level. He grew up believing he was just dyslexic! (but that's another story)
The company he worked at for 16 years closed it's doors this June and he's been trying to find a job with the help of Goodwill Industries. He was hired by a janitor service and lasted 2½ days before having an anxiety/panic attack.
He recently admitted to a crisis team member that he's felt afraid for his safety as well as mine and our son's since 9/11. (Post-Traumatic Stress?)
Anyway, I called Ron's psychatrist(with his permission) and left a message that I think she needs to check the medicine issue... I think he needs something different.
I'm beginning to feel like my life is falling apart; I know it's not but it's hard to be strong all the time! (I've thought of giving Ron the boot and asking for a separation but I can't do that because his mental health issues are not his fault... it's not like he's cheating on me... it would be easier if he was!! LOL) I've got our son, Jeremy, who just turned 13 in October to think about too. I know this is also hard him but he handles this better than me sometimes! He's seen a counselor about all of this before and the counselor told me that Jeremy's better adjusted than he(the counselor) is! Jeremy is a straight A student. He plays the trumpet and french horn in the school band and is VERY into animals.... he wants to be a Herpetologist!
Thanks for listening. I just needed to vent my frustration somewhere and I thought of this forum because I'm familiar with the site as I have Crohn's Disease and have posted on that forum before.
TTFN ~ Cathy
