Celexa and Toothache

I recently started on Celexa and went up from 5mg to 10mg. I am very sensitive to side effects, but this is a new one, I'm having terrible toothaches and the dentist looked and couldn't find anything wrong. I was wondering if anyone has ever experienced toothaches as a side-effect to Celexa or another SSRI? Thanks.

I'm on 20mg of celexa and have "phantom" toothaches--I get pain where I have had a tooth pulled. It's intermittent and inexplicable. I have not sought medical advice because it just goes away.

Thanks for sharing, I can't find any info about it anywhere and my psychiatrist said she'd never heard of this reaction. I just keep taking advil for it. Glad to hear it goes away for you though.

Hi, I'm new here.  I work for a dentist. I'm a CDA for 30 years.  I am also on Celexa. I work at the front desk so I read all the health histories, insurance,address and the like.  I have never heard of a reaction like that to Celexa.  Could it be your are night grinding?  Stress can have all sorts of effects on the body as you know.  I have to wear a night guard so I don't break my fillings. I am on 20mg and think I should probably go to 30mg.  I have shoulder pain that radiates up the back of my neck into my head and it is mostly this time of year.  Ask you dentist about a bruxism splint. They cost about $300, but would be worth it and may be covered by your dental insurance.

Hi, thanks for letting me know that this is not usual. It may just be a coincidence of timing. I have a night guard so I don't think that's the problem. My tooth pain has intensified and so I'm now taking tylenol with codeine and an antibiotic until the dentist can see me. Is your sholder pain from the celexa?

No, the shoulder and neck pain is from not enough Celexa!  It is where all my tension rests.  I know now why the old adage is 'feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders'. Well, that is what it feels like.  My doc just upped me to 40mg yesterday. Too early to tell how I will feel.  Right now I'm a little dizzy and absent minded.  Tried to mail a letter with no address on it. mad Did have a stamp tho. :-)    Don't know your dental history, but if your tooth is throbbing, and sensitive to hot and cold, thats a pretty sure sign you have an abcess.

I hope the 40mg works for you. I ended up throwing up all night from either the tylenol with codeine or the antibiotic, not sure since they are both new. I feel awful. I'll ask the dentist about an abcess, that doesn't sound good....

Thanks for asking. They took more x-rays and said they could do a route canal on one tooth that could be causing the problem, but they weren't sure that was the problem. They told me to wear my night guard for grinding. And they gave me Vicodan for pain. I haven't done the route canal as I don't really want to do it unless they are sure that's the problem. But it's been a week or so and the pain has mostly gone away, so I don't know if it was a side effect of starting Celexa or just something else that comes and goes. So weird!

I do know (from my own research) that Celexa/Lexapro cause sinus pressure and problems. Sinus pressure and pain can put pressure on your upper teeth. I have gone through all this myself. So if it is your upper teeth and you also feel sinus pressure around your eyes and between this might be whats going on. I am VERY sensitive too.

That's good to know. I feel pain going back towards my right ear, but not much around my eyes. Can I ask what you did for any sinus pain or teeth pain you experienced?
