EFFEXOR TAPER WAS GOING GREAT ; then bang! I'm so sore...

Hi all.
Some of you have read my thread dealing with Effexor tareping so that
I can try zofloft.
Last thursday I was gushing about how good I felt. Well thar all
ended on Friday. Friday morning I was so sore that I could barely get
out of bed. Today is Monday , and I don't feel any better. I don't know
what is going on. I'm depressed again , but I think that is because I'm
sore sore.
But should I feel sore as a result of tapering, and it just hit me now? Can anyone confirm that this is natural? I'm on 112.5ug/h of
fentanyl, and had been tapering successfully up to and including
Thursday. Now I'm just sore , sore , sore....
BTW- my taper is at 150, which is half of the 300 mg that I stated tapering off of about 1 1/2 months ago.

Is this normal? I'm also getting the " brain zaps " along with the
pain. I've never heard to Pain-levels incraseing because of Effexor taper,
and why did it take 1 1/2 months to hit me?

Maybe the Effexor was helping with the pain too. I know it can. Are you tapering on the fentanyl too or is that just your regular dose? I would definitely talk to the doctor about what is going on. I hope that things get better Derwood.

Thank you Karen. You and some others really know a lot about
medicine. I talked to my pharmacist and ( sorry if this sounds cruel)
but no help from him, as expected.
What I think I will do Karen, is to go back to 187.5 ( 150 + 37.5
and keep all the others the same until I see my Doctor on Arp.26
( 8 days ). Remember that I was at 300mg when I started the taper.
My thoughts are this is likely the least obtrusive as I can get with my meds. Just the one 37.5 mg of Effexor from where I was when I
was feeling fine.
My doctor is off today because of the Easter holiday , but I will
call and ask to be put on the cancellation list in case someone calls
within the next week. This will also help ( I think ) in determining
if the last Effexor taper of 37.5 might be the problem.
Does this sound like a reasonable plan?

My mind isn't quite with-it either : you asked me if I was tapering
off of the fentanyl too. I'm not Karen.

I am thinking that this last drop in dose is what caused you a problem. I think going back to a reasonable dose until you see the doc is a good thing. Some antidepressants help with pain and Effexor is one of them. I think Cymbalta, Effexor and Pristiq. There may be others though. Or it could be a withdrawal effect, but that would be one I didn't know about. Usually it is brain zaps and dizziness. Plus depression itself. One time I went off of Effexor and it was horrible. I was super dizzy, bad brain zaps and uncontrollable rage. I hated the way I was feeling.

Getting on the cancellation list is a good idea too. Sounds like you know what you are doing. Keeping things under control. I hope you feel better soon.

I asked if you were going off fentanyl too because of the pain. Are you due to change your patch soon? Just curious.

Derwood- I was sore when I came off of Paxil, not too bad but I was sore. If you think it is the Effxor then I would ask the doctor to slow it down. Maybe do 37.5mg once a month or 2 instead? Maybe a light pain reliever on top of your pain med? I am not sure how that works, sorry.

I would only taper as fast as your body can handle it. I went down half for 2 months. I was only on 40 mg. I also had the second med at the other half dose. So 20mg of Paxil and 20mg of Celexa. Maybe your doctor can do something like that?

Karen ; Dawn , thank you both for your ( terrific ) opinions, and I plan to follow your advice and go back to 187.5 mg Effexor
( just I doseage I think - at least I don't think they come in smaller
doses (?) ) as well as keeping my other meds the same ( of course).

Today is day 2 of 187.5 mg instead of the 150 and I am feeling better,especially my knees smile. All of this info should probably help my doctor as far as prescribing goes. Certainly not a waste; just a
bit of extra pain , when I had myself convinced that I was a bit better than I am.

It also could be that when you were feeling better you did more, and that is (part of) the soreness you're experiencing. That is, partly from the med dosages, partly from activity.

That is an excellent point Lynnwood, and I shall keep it in mind because that type of thinking has caught me out a few times in the past

I hope you are still doing good. I know a taper can be hard but stick with it and see it out. You will feel better for it later I am sure.

I know it is hard to go down in dose but keep with it and know that in the end it will be well worth it.

Being overly active when I felt good has done me in more than once and I always forget that I did more than I usually do and then wonder why I hurt so much. Silly me!

As long as things don't get unbearable I would stay on the taper path. You are doing awesome!
