Fatigue depression, depression fatigue

Which comes first? Depression or fatigue? For me I think I have fatigue and then I become depressed because I feel like crap. However, I find that if I cry I usually feel better. My fatigue has been the worst I can ever remember it being. I've had it off and on my whole life. I get to the point where I have thoughts of throwing in the towel. It's just so overwhelming. Even rest doesn't make it better. I force my self to do a minimum of 30 minutes of cardio a day. Today it was unbelievable difficult. I did a half hour at the gym this morning and then a long walk at the park this evening.

I don't know what to do anymore. I went to the hospital a couple of weeks ago for my depression the doc adjusted my meds. I had maybe 5 good days and then I crashed hard. That was actually the longest I've felt good an a while. So, when I crashed.. it was worse than ever and I was even more depressed because I thought I was on the mend. I'm going to go back to the outpatient program I was in before. Hopefully it will help. Right now I've been seeing my therapist 2 times a week.. and that's not even enough. I want to stalk him. Anybody ever seen the movie "What about Bob"? I want to be like that.. lol (not really).

Anyway.. how many of you suffer with fatigue and how do you deal with it?

Your fatigue will lift in time. I know that this sounds strange, but I know you were taking pain pills for a bit. Going off of them gives you fatigue if you were on them for any length of time. It takes time for that to go away but it does. Just don't take more because it will happen again as soon as you run out. I avoid them like the plague. I was on pain pills for about 13 years.

The only other thing I can think of is chronic fatigue. Or fibromyalgia. I have fibro and I have chronic fatigue too. I take Adderall for that.

I hope that you feel better soon. Just keep doing what you are doing, I think in a little time you will start to feel better.

Hey Chris.

You have been under so much emotional pressure I believe for the last year, it is not wonder your batteries are almost out of juice!!

Than you lost the person closest to you with out warning. Your mind said "Holy crap!" I don't I have enough power to handle of this! So everything went into overdrive!!!!!

You are recovering from an operation. You body was physically invaded and how long [?] of severe chronic pain.

Your body is telling you it needs rest, it needs quiet, it needs soothing.

Continue to be kind to yourself, don't push yourself. You will not be so tired forever.

The pain I think was 4 months. And it was awful! Thanks for reminding me. I keep working out everyday anyway. I have decided I will do 30 minutes of cardio a day no matter how crummy I feel. I'm also trying to eat healthier.. I'm there about half the time. It's a step in the right direction anyway.

Weird, I thought I had responded to Karen's post but I don't see my response. Anyway, I occasionally take a norco. Not everyday anymore. It is a hard habit to break. I saw a specialist for a year and he ruled out chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. My primary did send me for extensive blood tests. So I'm anxious to see if anything comes out of that.

I think that the fatigue will subside in time. I hope you feel better soon, you deserve to after all you been through.

Now that I have Crohn's and am on various meds, I can't really sort out the chicken from the egg anymore. But in the past, when I was 100% physically healthy, I can definitely say that the depression preceded the fatigue. It was unreal how tired an otherwise healthy teenager could get - I felt like I was weighted down with heavy weights and the smallest task would take a mammoth effort. When the depression lifted I would return to my normal energy levels.

Physical stuff, like major operations and chronic pain, will also heavily take it out of you. I can testify to that as well!

Thanks. I'm having really bad anxiety this morning. Because I'm going back to the outpatient program. I wasn't expecting this.. so now it's fatigue and anxiety. Lord help me through this day!

You will get through. It is all good stuff. You are starting your wellness journey. Take things slow. One day at a time.

My therapist says I should try to accept that I'm going to have times where I have fatigue and times that I don't. It's frustrating. I guess I don't want to accept it. I get what he's saying though.

Last night was extremely difficult. I went on the crises chat line and talk to a couple of friends. After a while I took a sleeping pill and fell asleep. This morning isn't so great either. I just want all my hard work in therapy to pay off.

Kcrispcat, sorry you are so tired. I can totally relate. I come here from time to time but should come here more often. I spend more time on other forums here. I have what I would describe as chronic fatigue. Sometimes anti depressants work for a while but then they fizzle out or give me insomnia.

Some antidepressants give energy and other can make you sleepy. I am guessing that you know that already.

Did they check your thyroid or do any other tests for the fatigue??

I got a little relief from fatigue by taking CoQ10. I also feel better when I take a multi vitamin. The best antidepressant for me for fatigue was wellbutrin. I had to stop because it gave me bad headaches and backaches. However, I think I might have to start taking it again. I need something real bad.

jeanneac.. its nice to know i'm not alone but i'm sorry you have to feel like that sad

They have tested my thyroid i take meds for that already. I have been tested for chronic fatigue and they say i don't have it. I've been taking Wellbutrin for years. I'm taking 450 as well as Cymbalta, Depakote and gabapentin. My psychiatrists are always working on my meds.

I still feel crummy.

Oh my, it sounds like you are on a boatload of meds. Gabapentin can be sedating. It can take a while for things to heal. I hope you feel better soon!

Chris,

I get exactly what your are saying.

So much are work emotionally in therapy, taking such a physical toll.

Then we have to take meds to sleep!!! It does not make sense logically.

I have a hard time accepting this also. I think it is my hardest battle at times.

Therapist and doc say it will get better as I work through, just have to hold on to knowing that we have both been through worse and can do this!
