Hi All
This is my first time posting in this forum. I have a personality where I struggle to be able to ever relax or feel happy. I typically go to bed anxious and wake up the same way. This leads me to being constantly worn out so I'm less active, accomplish less and then feel more anxious ... Repeat!
I've been on Citralopram for years but not sure if it is helping. As I get older (50) it is actually getting worse. A bit of of a constant "dark cloud" around me that I can't get rid of.
I have a great, supportive wife and a good job so those aren't the problem. I do feel that everything is my fault and I have to take care of everything. I know this isn't true BUT still leads to, you guessed it, more anxiety, getting less done and the cycle gets worse.
Any advice?

HI Nerdguy,
Have to told the prescribing doctor about
your situation? There is a class of antidepressants that have anxiety properties in them. They are called "SNRI"s. They help a lot with anxiety. Ask your doctor about
them if you feel your medication isn't cutting it. I take pristiq. And I have since gone off of the Xanax which was for anxiety.
I also practice mindfulness and meditation which both help with anxiety.
I know the feeling that everything is my fault and that I have to fix or control everything. It is so freeing when you stop this pattern of thinking. Life goes on with or without us so we honestly cannot be in control of everything. So don't even try...
I really think talking to your doctor would be a good place to start. Then maybe a therapist to help you get out of that mindset. Coming here helps to as you can get some ideas what other people do for bad anxiety.
Life is short, you are going to be 50. I think it is time you get to enjoy it fully.
I am glad you have a supportive partner. That is so important.
Hang in there Nerdguy,
Keep posting and I hope what I posted is of some help.
Hugs, Karen...

Hi Karen
Thanks for quick reply. I will talk to my doctor about
a SNRI. To be honest, one of my problems is that I don't make time to go see a doctor!

They can help so much. They might keep you on what you are on and add an anti anxiety med, or they might put you on an SNRI. Or they might do something totally different, but letting them know about
the anxiety will help you.

Then take the first step--go, explain, ask for help.
Madness is doing the same thing, but expecting it to turn out differently. Make an appointment.

Hi all
Doctor is closed for the holidays so I will have to book next week. I will of continue with the Rx that i have from her.
Writing here was also a change for me. Hoping to find a bit of a support network here!

I hope you get an appointment soon Nerd.
I am glad you are continuing with the prescript
ion until you see her. It is never good to stop a medication like this without talking to the doc first.
Have a good day.
We all need support from time to time.

Thank you Karen. A forum etiquette question. Should I be using the daily check in thread? For little things like we uncluttered a bunch of one room today to see if it helps? Little steps, right?

If you want to post on the check in thread, you are welcome to. It isn't like you have to or anything like that. But it is there, and it helps you to get to know other members and share if you would like, good or bad...
Feel free to post there if you want to.
Hugs, Karen...

I don't know if I'm allowed to share links, but CNN did a neat article about
the back to work blues January 4, 2016. It somehow helps to know that how I'm feeling is fairly common.

I think it would be okay to share that link. Just not something where something is being sold.
