Happy New Year everyone.

I hope today is not an indication of how the year is going to go. Daughter and grandson are sick. I'm frustrated.

I have cleaned up the recycling that started to take over the kitchen, disposed of 4 pizza boxes (there is no trash pick up today and not much room in the can until pick up on Thursday) scooped the litter boxes and was preparing to start the ham...only to find dirty pots and pans hidden in the oven! Apparently, my sick days meant that things did not get done!

We are in the grip of frigid temps still with snow in the forecast for Thursday. Yikes!

At least the days are getting longer!

The longer (and warmer) days always do help me.

On the bright side, you are with your family AND are getting things done. All in all, could be a lot worse.

Karen...your thoughts about antlers was new for me, too... The following is what I researched

Since reindeer shed their antlers at different points of the year based on their sex and age, we know that Santa’s reindeer probably aren't older males, because older male reindeer lose their antlers in December and Christmas reindeer are always depicted with their antlers. That means Santa’s sled either has to be pulled by young reindeer, constantly replaced as they start to age, or Santa’s reindeer are female. Do you want to imagine a rotating crop of sleigh pullers or an all-female lineup? It’s up to you.

Classes, gym, and tutoring. That is all. Oh, and making yogurt in the Instant Pot.

Horrible weather here in the North East.....and so many other places. Every day I worry about pipes freezing, running out of furnace fuel....etc. Will never complain about hot weather again.

Haven't tried to start my van. Just hope I don't run out of food for me and my fur baby.
Have a doctor appointment for eye injection early next week. Wonder if that will take place.

We are going to have very cold weather Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Then up to 32 on Sunday. Heat wave there. I hope it is true. I wish I didn't have to go through the cold to get to the warm.

Joyce I hope your pipes don't freeze and that you don't run out of fuel. That is a scary thought.

I hope you get a warm up too on Sunday. It was 22 below zero the other day. I hope that these new cold temps don't go that low. That was totally brutal.

Thanks for the Smiler again. I really enjoy reading them. It is interesting about the tattoos. I heard some interesting tidbits about Thomas Edison and Tesla the other day. I didn't watch the documentary, only know what hubby told me. But I guess Thomas Edison wasn't such a nice guy. Tesla had developed AC and Edison was promoting DC. Was said that Edison electrocuted animals on the streets of NY to say that AC was too dangerous. I thought that was horrible.

Still bitter out, snowstorm coming, then it will get worse! Yikes!

Leave cold water tap furthest from the main (where it comes into the house) trickle. Do NOT leave the hot water trickle. If the water supply line should break BEFORE it gets to your house, your water heater will not be 'fed' and will burn out. open the cabinet doors to help warm air circulate under the cabinets where the pipes are located. Having a pot of water steaming on the stove can humidify the air and help it feel warmer. Obvious caution about this is not letting it 'boil' dry and/or leaving it on when bedtime comes.

If your doorknobs are exposed to snow, sleet, freezing rain...take a plastic sandwich bag and cover the outside of the knob using an elastic band so ice won't get in the mechanism. If it should freeze, use a blow dryer directed on the knob to help defrost it, but be careful when you touch it!

We are stocked on food and t.p. and other 'creature comforts'. Make sure flashlights work. Make sure battery operated radio works. Have 'evacuation items' ready and have a plan. Know where your 'warming shelters' are and if they take pets, too.

If you must leave your home, leave the tap open, close off the gas line to your home. Unplug as much as you can so a power surge won't overload your circuits.

I have rarely seen this cold sustained for so long and our infrastructure is aging. Be prepared.

Hi All! It is very cold and windy and snowing quite heavily here (Connecticut) as well. I'm not sure of the exact temperatures but "frigid" comes immediately to mind. School was cancelled for me yesterday. But, I still was up at 6:00 am to teach my 4 ESL classes and since then I have been cleaning my kitchen (round 2). My bathroom, dining room and living room are soon to follow if I don't give out first. ...Yup, I'm starting to get sick again. I had two whole weeks of being healthy

But it does feel good to know that work is (hopefully) paying me to clean my home! I hope all of you stay warm, dry and with electricity today.

Michelle: It is good to see you back again! I missed you when you left. Are you still teaching now that you moved? Or are you retired now? Did you take your dog with you? I hope your children are still doing well.

Very cold here but suppose to be 30 degrees tomorrow and 42 by Tuesday. I am looking forward to that but I think we are going to get some rain on top of all this snow. I hope not.
