Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. This never ending cold weather has been getting me down. I've been in a lot of pain and the meds leave me foggy.

We are 10 degrees colder than we should be, so everything is delayed. The 'good news' is that I'm able to enjoy my tulips for a change! This type blooms yellow and over time, changes to salmon and then a deep orange! The past few years, it's gotten 'hot' which speeds the process and I don't get to enjoy the color change the way I do when it's cooler out.

I had the foresight to cut some of the daffodils and bring them in before the torrential rain the other day. Sunny yellow ones and a few 'doubles' that have cream and peach coloring! This way, I can enjoy them indoors, too.

The first amaryllis is finished blooming. The other two are getting taller and should open soon. I can't wait to see what colors they are!

I still have so much more to plant but no room! I've set up the little greenhouse on the patio, but it's still too cold to put these tropicals out. For now, the space is taken up by some gerbera daisies, a geranium and a pot of pansies my friend and I picked up on clearance (yes, already!) that needed a little T.L.C. I still have dahlias to start! The day lilies and oriental lilies in the garden are doing well, so I may move the 'new one' out today. This will at least give me room to start one pot of dahlias.

The sugar snap peas I planted last month have not sprouted yet. Too cold, I fear. I may plant some more today. If the first come up, then I'll have doubled my plants and will have even more yummy snacks!

The garden center is already selling tomato plants but I think it's much too cold just yet. I'll give it at least 2 more weeks before getting any transplants.

HI Pitmom,

Thanks again for the lovely description of your flowers. I can picture them when I read your posts.

Good luck with the green house and the ever changing tulips. We still have a foot or more of snow, but I think it is going to melt during the next few days. Sun, sun, sun... I hope!

I hope that your pain goes away. I know that is no fun.

Sunny and cold. I have finished work for much fo the day. I am going to have some lunch and then go to the garden. I put up my Willow teepee over the weekend, and sprouted and planted long beans, as well as soaking and planting nasturtiums. I hope it was not cold enough to kill my small sprouts!! If so, I have plenty of seeds to do it again. I feel guilty when I kill them off, though.

Agreed about the tomatoes--mine are scheduled to go out in a week, but I might wait two. My peppers are going great guns, as I already have several flower buds. I started them 6 weeks ago. The eggplants are getting stronger. I started cucumbers a week ago, and I already have three inch plants.

I have been hardening off the older plants, so they will be ready to go when the weather agrees.

Looking at cars--waiting for the estate check. Be well!!

Awesome about the gardening Myself. And here I still sit under a foot or more of snow. Oh well. I want to move south though someday. I am sick of the long winters.

It will be so cool to get a new car. I am so happy for you!!!

Morning all

It's sunny here too today. I'm feeling a bit mixed at the moment. I'm definitely feeling better than I was a month ago when I started nortriptyline, so that's working out well. The heart-racing side effects have now eased to the point I don't need beta blockers to sleep, or at least they had when I wasn't overly anxious.

I saw the psychiatrist last week. He said that we would try combining my low dose of nortriptyline with another anti-depressant on lower dose and then I shouldn't have to deal with too bad side effects.

He also prescribed me Viagra because the pregabalin dose I'm on makes it very difficult/impossible to have sex. I took a little yesterday and soon got very anxious about it. First I was worried it wouldn't work, then I noticed my heart was a little faster and after all the anxiety I've had with my heart rate in the past it just triggered the anxiety to come back.

So I'm feeling stuck at the moment. I don't think I can try it again until I'm more stable. Pregabalin has helped me get through this difficult stage, made me calmer and a bit happier. But it has killed my sex drive and made me quite numb down there. Girlfriend is fine about it for now but it really bothers me.

And then I have a new AD to look forward to. After the rollercoaster of side effects I've had in the last 2 months I am guessing that won't be smooth sailing.

I'm just praying I can find some mix of meds that works. I'm not expecting miracles--I've almost given up on ever feeling "normal" again, but I know I can get in a better place than I am now

I'm starting this post on a sad note...but it helps to share.

Two years ago on this day my husband of 56 years passed.
It seems like yesterday....and I miss him still

So I will try to smile and hope that someday we will be together again.

A dear friend of mine stopped by yesterday. I was 'showing off' the shelves I installed in the kitchen with all of the amaryllis bulbs on them and telling her I have 2 more getting ready to bloom when she says...um, 3. What a surprise!!!! One of the bulbs that I thought was just giving me foliage this year had 'secretly' sprouted a bud!!!! Poor thing was so bent from trying to 'pass' the upper shelf! Well, now it's out on the counter with plenty of room to grow and already straightening up.

We had dinner and stopped into Walmart and came away with 2 hanging baskets of pansies with white sweet alysum (on clearance) and a few other transplants for the garden. She loves to revisit my garden with her camera and takes the most wonderful pictures!

So, of course, we have a freeze warning for the overnight. Ugh. At least the transplants are small enough I can pop them onto the greenhouse shelves and the pansies should hold up on their own. The sun is shining at the moment which will help my tiny greenhouse get nice and warm for them and should hold throughout the night. Sun and more warmth for tomorrow, thank goodness.

I took my plants outside for an hour yesterday, and the poor little seedlings got frozen and wilty. I brought them back in, and put them under a light--and gave them a little warm water. In an hour, all but two were recovered, and the other two got back their strength a bit after. My cucumbers need a few more weeks--but I am very hopeful that I can get the tomatoes and peppers out soon.

I feel like such a failure recently. I just posted about it so I will not whine here.

Joyce--I am thinking of your anniversary today.

I bought some cucumber seeds today, just a few in the package. I hope that they are good ones. They are suppose to be sweet. I didn't see burpless or straight eights.

I also bought a small pot for a plant my cousin gave me. I don't know what it is called but I know it is a succulent and it is dainty looking. It is doing good along with my orchids. My rosemary made it through the winter for the first time. I am going to plant it in the ground and see how big it gets. It was a little one I bought in the produce department as a cooking herb. I potted it up and continued to let it grow.

Hubby is doing a lot better now. Still has pain but will for well over a month anyway. I got him a new cane, he really likes it. I am glad.

I hope you all have a good day today. I am glad your plants came back Myself. I can't wait to get tomato plants.

blessing to all. turtle at library...had a run of nice winter, before the winter blues kick in. the go go alright, aka the rattler. its crusty and old, bit like me! healing thoughts joyce. been declutter doin lawns and hurting my body a tad. but it been good. at library, borrow a tonne of tunes and request a lot of e books. my concentration with reading is shocking these days. using gabapentin, helping a bit. 16 mnth wait for carpal tunnel cut cut. be good my friends. I think of you all often. blessings ht.

Today I am trying to keep the squirrels off of the bird feeders. Most of them are eating off of the ground except for one grey one that keeps climbing up the pole. Time to grease the pole again I guess.

Hello all. Spring has finally sprung! We're still a bit below temperature wise, but it is much nicer out the past few days. Still have some plants in the greenhouse, just to be safe.

My cat, Tigger, had a grand mal seizure yesterday. Both cat and potted amaryllis took a tumble off of the kitchen counter. Blessedly, Tigger came through it with no apparent difficulties. The plant did not fare as well. The stem broke completely off. I put it in some water after dealing with the cat. I doubt it will bloom. Sigh. I repotted the bulb and should get new foliage soon.

I still have 2 other amaryllis with buds, so all is not lost.

Still no sign from the sugar snap peas.

I think I'm going to focus on flowers this year. Maybe one cherry tomato plant.

The canna plants are doing fantastic! I can't wait until its warm enough to leave them outside. It looks like both green elephant ears will sprout soon! The speckled one is doing great!

I had a pot full of oriental lilies that I dug up and divided. I thought I got all of the bulbs but after looking again...it seems I didn't! So, now the big purple pot will still have flowers and I have 3 small pots to dot the landscape with!

My houseguest will be moving out at the end of the week so, I'm holding off on making the slipcovers for the patio furniture until after all of the hubbub is over. I moved the patio set to the backyard this year. Not sure how much it will get used but it opened up the front patio a bit more and I like it.

I've divided a bunch of my daylilies and given some away to a couple of neighbors. Some will most likely go back into the pots I took them out of and give color to the backyard where I've moved those big pots to.

The mimosa tree is so large now...I'm having to look for plants that do well in shade! I've added a hellebore and 2 columbine to the bed with the big blue hosta.

Hopefully, tomorrow I'll be spray painting 2 double shepard's hooks and putting them in the bed that runs the length of the house. Not sure what I'll hang from them...not potted plants as it's too hot and dry over there...but something to bring more color to that side.

I potted some 'dinner plate' dahlias, too. Not sure where they are going, yet!

Thanks for sharing Pitmom... Sounds like everything is doing good other than the one kitty knocked over. I am glad kitty is okay.

As always I enjoyed reading about your flowers. Still snow on the ground here but melting fast. It was in the 60's today.

Hi Karen.., glad your snow is finally melting...at least some of it.
Read that you mentioned your husband was using a cane. I must have missed the information about what is troubling him. Hope it improves.

Pitmom...I'm exhausted after reading ALL you do and care for. Wow, lady...you sure have a pile of energy. Could you send some my way for a day or two.
Seriously, though...good luck with all your plants (and kitty)

Having a bit of a downer with my two sons. Apparently I'm "too bossy".
They are probably right...but my question is..."how do I change" ??? at this advanced age.
Anyway, hope things improve. I'll (try) to back off.
