HI all.

We lost our dogwood tree. took it down today. considering another tree, weep cherry.
But with the storms, do not know if it will survive next winter.

Found out we have turkey vultures living under the huge green evergreen bush in the back yard against the fence, the juveniles are learning to fly and find carrion. Apparantly next there for years. the next in the ground, 3 to 4 feet deep.

It is adults that have freaking the poo out of our dogs over the past 4-5 years. AND why the dogs run straight for the bush when let out.
All mysteries solved.

They are so ugly and scary. But they are a magnificent bird and clean up the road kill.

Sorry to hear about the dog wood tree. They are real pretty.

Very comical about the dogs Trina. They know where to go for excitement.

I had skunks last summer. they were living under a trailer that got torn down. Well, they decided to move to our neck of the woods. One was solid white. Freaked me out one night. I couldn't tell what it was but it kept heading towards me. Needless to say I got Jasmine inside quick.

They hung around for awhile and then moved on. None of us ever got sprayed but one sprayed under the shed and you could smell it from time to time. All in all it was a good experience... I loved seeing the white one. By looking out the window of course.

Have a good one all. It is sunny here today and I am going to town. Will be nice to get out in the sunshine, it rained most of the day yesterday, which we needed.

Our 'instant summer' disappeared overnight. Cloudy with a chill breeze and just a sprinkle of rain, but the plants seemed to enjoy the respite. I'll still have to water tomorrow, though.

I took a bit of a spill, landing on my right butt bone the other day...bruised and quite sore still. Jarred my spine, too. Glad to take a break from the garden chores for a day!

The white amaryllis bloomed...it has some red/pink streaking on the petals...gorgeous blooms the size of my outstretched hand!

I've added pink/burgundy lilies and yellow/gold lilies to the garden. They're blooming now, since they were nursery plants, so there is color already in the bed. The hyacinths are done, as are the last of the white daffodils. If not for the new plants, the bed would just be green for a few more weeks!

The azalea started blooming today...hot pink! The lilacs will finish too quickly from the heat, but they are beautiful and there were enough blooms I could share a few with my neighbor who lost her bushes from construction a couple of years ago. Perhaps the cuttings will root for her.

My burgundy iris that I added two years ago have finally started blooming! I have buds on the purple ones and on the lavender ones too!

Picked up some tropical hibiscus on clearance...one looks like it will bloom yellow and the other...burgundy 'eye' shading out to hot pink and a peach fringe all around! I've never seen anything like it! Another gerbera daisy, this one in a hanging pot, a pot of white and pink geraniums and a pot of calibrachoa in burgundy shade. My plan is to drill screws into the branches of the dead mimosa tree so that I can hang pots of colorful flowers from them! I already have the extended watering wand! Lot's of red tubular shaped flowers, so the hummingbirds will still visit, I hope! Thank God for the clearance racks! The hibiscus were only $10 each and the hangers were marked down to $3 each!

I also snagged 2 mandavilla vines for a buck a piece! I still have some empty hanging pots to fill! Maybe I'll get lucky and instead of trailing down, they will climb the bare branches instead!

I am here, today. hard hands wrecked, neck...pulling skull tight all around.
new doc cant find old scans, was told, yrs back, bulge discs times two and arthritis.
been in bad pain last 6 mnths. doc allowed increase in gabapentin, err, threw up, it will pass.
get the freeze pain, doc thinks a compression, more nuropathy, we will see. a mri next tues. yah.
and 2 scans. get on top of it. be good. those vultures sound creepy buggers. but they do a job.
love the green thumbs....I cut down a rubber tree, grows like wild fire. hurt like hell over two days.

Hey kids--been out in the garden. Lettuce going great guns--tomatoes got accustomed to being transplanted, tho cucumbers are still settling in. 2 out of three summer squash have come up--and I am resprouting beans, because I set out the others too early, and they died. I just popped the winter squash seeds in, so nothing going there yet. I transplanted the eggplant yesterday, and covered them. Picked radishes yesterday--and the bok choy is going strong. Parsley, basil, and amaranth getting going. The peppers are still here at the house--I don't want to set them out until next week. Hm--what else? The marigold, calendula, and nasturtium seeds I planted are coming up. Here in Maryland, we have 80 and sunny.

I have been a bit down. Need to exercise, need to get a car. I have several I am keeping an eye on. I really wanted a Mini--but read the reviews and decided against it. Cute but breaks down a lot. A LOT.

I am not so much a gardener anymore, since we live next to green acres and alll is shade.

Pitmom, I think you ask me about branching off the bush regarding the turkey vultures. Last year I did take branch off a good foot up so I could see what the dogs were up to, thinking they were trying to dig under the fence.

It as not phased the vultures one bit.

Karen, how is Jazzie doing?

My Maverick was sitting with me outside today, Alley was tired from a visit from the 3yr old next door early. So she was snoring on the couch.

Do I am reading, a big black bird swoops down, Man is laying in grass next to his stump in the sun. Looks at the bird and sniffs the air, ears perked. I say Mav, get that bird out of your yard, looks at me lays down
his head. 3 more birds swoop in pecking at the grass, he just lays there watching, Does not even bark.

Maverick has either turned Bhuddist or his 12 years has hit him hard and I will be seeing a decline soon.
My poor little old man.
To bad reality can not be Bhuddist.

That's a heartwarming post Trina. I love reading about the dogs.

I use to have a venus fly trap Lynnwood. But I don't remember if it ate anything. Maybe one fly.

I hope that the vertigo goes away soon.

I'm sorry about that, Joyce :/ Is there a medical explanation? I don't want to raise false hopes, but depending on what caused it, it could be temporary...

Put my humming bird feeders up yesterday since one was spotted. I put an oriel feeder up too and one came in. He was beautiful. He went from the oriel feeder to the suet and then the humming bird feeder. He was in three times! Haven't seen him today though.
