Many people with serious mental health issues decide to see a psychotherapist.
Some individuals prefer seeing a male therapist, while others would rather see a female therapist. Then their are those who don't have a preference.
Back in 2009, I had worked with quite a few different therapists by then. And at that point, I had better luck working with male therapists.
Don't get me wrong: I never had anything against female therapists. It's just that the therapists who I had found to be the best fit for me happened to all be male. Up to that point, I had better luck working with male therapists.
But that all changed for me when, in 2009, I started working with a new therapist, a female, whom I came to feel was one of the best therapists that I had ever worked with.
To say that a therapist is good at it or not is a matter of opinion. And to say that male therapists are better at it than female therapists, or vice-versa, is a matter of opinion as well. However, whether you feel more comfortable working with a male therapist or a female therapist is up to you. You have that choice.
