Group Therapy

Some of the members of our group met yesterday. We also had a few people from other groups who were in previous classes. This makes sense as it is always good to meet more people suffering along with you.

It was a one hour session to just talk to each other and report progress. For myself, I found it was not enough time to have conversations among the 8 people taking part. We meet again in 2 weeks. Our Nurse moderator mentioned the fact that psychiatric nursing was thought to be much less important in Medicine in general.

I think this may be true. Other illnesses seem to take precedence.

We have been off for the summer. We have had beautiful weather for july and august. Really helps the with Depression. Our group has been out of touch with each other so we are all looking forward to the September get together. When I partake in this assembly I will post any news or happenings.

The group is now meeting monthly. It now consists of anyone of the 4 groups from classes held in 2019

The moderator is still the same and she helps us get things out that cause our mutual problems.

It has become a group that enjoys each other and we look forward to seeing each other. This will go on until

people lose interest. I think this has been an experience many would benefit from.

To bring you up to date, we are still meeting once a month for 1 hour of general back and forth conversations regarding our mutual progress. Some are better and some are the same. It still is an advantage to see each other. There has been a certain feeling that we are holding on and we care for our mutual recovery.

Our last session was "How to get through the Holidays" It was helpful as many problems with reuniting with family members not seen on a regular basis tends to be stressful. Our get together for January is this week.

I hope everybody survives the holiday period.

The present situation has put a halt in our monthly meetings. Our faithful leader is calling each one of us
every month to have a little chat by phone. We may be using Skype or FaceTime to contact folks who are
technically inclined. This may be tough for me being somewhat limited in my computer skills.

Hi everybody,

It has been a long stretch of time since I have been on here. Covid has changed everything for me
as group sessions were not possible. My wife and I and all the family have had our two shots of the
vaccine. As I am from Canada, it seems we are getting control of the situation. If only everyone helped
by getting vaccinated. We are getting Passports to allow us to go to restaurants, gyms,movies,public
activites, etc.

The group may get back to seeing each other when things become normal. (if that is possible) My psychiatrist
retired and I now have a new person on my case. I am presently changing medication. I have started
"Effexor" and so far I am feeling better. Hope it works. Nice to be back on this site. It has been great for me and I have recommended it to others.

Thanks for getting back to me. The last year has been difficult for all of us. I'm sure you
have been busy moderating and leaving your thoughts and advice to many lost souls.

I want to share something with you and anyone else who might be interested. On Facebook
I got a message from a man I used to know about 50 years ago ( showing my old age} in the
city where I spent the first 41 years of my life. I moved to Montreal in 1982. I was transferred
to make my way in the big city . This person invited me to drop in for a drink. He lives 5 minutes
from me and thought it would be fun to talk about the old days.

I told him that would be nice, but I had not felt too well lately and l would get in touch by Email.
I decided to be frank with him and I said I suffered from depression. That turned out to be the
wrong thing to say. It appears we won't be getting together any time soon as I didn't hear more from him.

It is still a subject that many people can not deal with. For years I was able to function quite well as
I could get along by hiding the fact that I suffered from this sickness. People assume depression
means you are not "all there". Should I get back to him ? Should I just forget about any socializing?

Anyone else had the same type of situation?

I guess I should have started a New Thread. I like the word "Pondering" It would be fitting.
