I'm 20 years old and just started taking some university courses. I've actually been pretty alright mentally because I was able to relax for a couple of months in the summer but now I'm starting to feel a lot of pressure and stress again. The trauma of previous bad experiences with studying, a sense of failure and a feeling of debilitation by stress are effectively darkening my mood. I'm experiencing a fight-or-flight reaction telling me to give up on the studies before I've even really started.

I'd love to hear tips on surviving through these feelings and managing university/anything demanding and stressful. Or just hear how people are doing and dealing with their everyday life right now.

It is a lot to take in, when you look at the whole course. It helps to remember that you live each day...one by one. In fact, each moment smile

Try to enjoy the journey.. make friends, experience the joy of college, lol. Life at your age should be fun, as well as the hard work.

Take it easy. You'll be fine 👍✌️

Hi Depressed Student,

Ambling is right, try to take it one thing at a time instead of looking at the whole situation. One day at a time helps.

And yes, life should be fun for you right now.

If you can't do it, there is nothing wrong with taking some time off and going back. My grandson is taking time off of college due to coronavirus.

I hope that things get easier for you.

yes to all of the wisdom given.
Tips...i been mentally unwell at university but I was mentally
Unwell at the time but university pressure got me.
Always seek academic support it is avail. I had a lot of special consideration.
Your no failure a warrior you are. Posting here shows ya strength.

Other tip, downntime is crucial. A routine is vital; people get sucked into the laid back vibe too easily and remember to eat, and well! Sleep.?, get some.

Always reach out. You will be amazed how many are going through a similar situation.

You my have "paper fright". This happens to people studying who taken on to many courses in one semester. Also, people working and lack of concentration, focusing on the work load its self.

I was a college student between 2003-2004.

I found college and studying back then to be stressful and unpleasant at times, as I was still battling my issues with depression and anxieties.

That's why, back then, I cut back on how many courses I was taking at a time once it started to get to be too much for me.

I tried taking several courses at a time. However, when that became too much for me, I started only taking one course at a time. That was all I could handle back then.

And taking one course at a time worked out for me. It was a good idea for me.
