Suggestions for Insomnia??

Do you have a fan of any kind or a sound machine that you can put on your nightstand and hear the sound machine but not the faulty radiator?

I have firecrackers at this time of year, but the fans help to drown out that harsh sound that makes it through the windows. I also go into an interior hall that has no windows. Is there a room away from the sound that you can go into?

I've had similar issues. Strong foam earplugs (around 30-33db noise reduction) were very helpful. Often I would combine these with my old Bose noise-canceling headphones, though this required sleeping on my back (got somewhat used to it after a while). Nonetheless, sometimes the upstairs creaking noise and whatnot often got through even the 33db earplugs and headphones, but at least the effect was reduced.

Honestly, whoever designed that apartment building has caused untold misery. I'm guessing to many, not just me. The ceiling creaking sound was something of a Chinese water torture, especially if the person upstairs decided to engage in some regularly repeating activity.

I am so glad I can meditate. We have noisy neighbors who blast their music. Plus they rev up car engines. Once I fall asleep it usually doesn't wake me but getting to sleep can be a challenge.

At least with the meditation the noise isn't as annoying. You know it is there but you have the ability to not pay attention and it just fades into the back ground for the most part,.

I use earplugs which helps a little bit. However, the noise, which sounds like a stream boat blowing its horn, is so loud that it's hard to ignore.

Unfortunately, I can't go to a different room to avoid it as the noise is all over the place.

I hope that they find the source of the noise FP. This must be so exhausting for you. Let us know when they find the mystery noise.

You might can fie a complaint with the housing authority about this.

They perhaps should provide everyone with a place to stay until they can get it fixed.

Unfortunately, I can't stay with anyone. I know they are trying to fix this issue, but they can't find what is causing the noise yet.

I do like the idea of a sound machine. I will look into it.

I found 20mg melatonin for hubby on Amazon. He tried last night. Will let you know how it went.

GB, Did your husband find the 20mg melatonin effective?

Michelejic, I brought the sound machine to buffer the noise. I'm on the fence with it. I do find it smoothing, but I still get distracted by the noise.

He said yes, it is better than the ten. I think it affects him sooner too. It seems like when he takes it he goes to bed shortly there after.

His doctor told him to take it at 6:00 and go to bed at 10:00, but with the new dose he gets sleepy quicker. Now that I think of it, I think that they are quick dissolve. Makes sense. I suspect he will take it later than six.

I hope that the sound machine helps. We have noisy neighbors. They play their music really loud. They are across the street but I can still hear them. Even with my stereo on and the tv loud. Usually during the day they work on a car and rev the engine up really loud. Luna gets scared. Or they will drive around in their yard and go around and around over and over. Usually with a snowmobile or 4 wheeler. Drives me nuts but sure felt good to vent.

Forever .. I use silicone ear plugs works well available at drug stores grocery . My DH does dialysis nightly and on oxygen. Pretty noisy right next to me. I also use IPad earphone in one ear and ear plug in the other to listen to soft stories to lull me to sleep.

Melatonin causes tremendous serious diarrhea and stomach issues there are hundreds of documented cases please check them it did for me

Welcome to the depression forum. I don't think I have seen you post here before.

Melatonin doesn't cause stomach issues for all. My husband takes 20mg a night and it hasn't effected him. Though it may some. We are all different. It is a hormone that is naturally in our bodies. After 30 years old or so, it depletes. Thus the need for supplements.

I love Passion flower capsules for sleep! They work wonders and ashwaganda from Costco both are amazing for sleep! And over the counter too! Good luck! I too suffer from overactive mind so I’m up all night and forget to take these to wind down but when I do they work wonders! Xo

I haven't logged in for awhile but have developed a pretty serious sleep disorder and thought I'd see if I could find others going through the same thing. This is the most active thread I have found on the subject but even it hasn't been used since March. I'm a bit surprised about that since insomnia is such a common problem. So, is this the best place to post about the issue?
It's good to see the healingwellforums still going so strong.

Actually the forum has been rather slow all the way around. I think I posted in the beginning of the thread that I meditate to get to sleep. It works about 99% of the time. Rarely do I have sleepless nights.

I think on this forum that yes, this is a good place to post about the subject of insomnia. But it depends if anybody responds. There are a few lurkers that sometimes post to help others.

I used to use that Sleepytime tea and it helped a lot. But I found I had to go to bed shortly after drinking it. It does relax you.

I hope you find what works for you. We are all different.

I hope you get some restful sleep.

I just discovered a tea from Twinning which claims to help with sleeping. Interestingly, it has melatonin in it. Haven't tried it yet, but it may help.
