Help me weigh out risk/benefit effects from lexapro

Hello, I’m typically on this forum for crohns as I’ve had it almost all my life but most recently going through a very difficult time raising teens and separating from my husband if 22 years. I have horrible fibromyalgia so tried cymbalta and it made me violently ill. I thought it would be a miracle drug that would help my fibro and help with depression but it was a no go. I suggested to my doc Wellbutrin bc I’m exhausted as well but he thought I’d have a similar reaction as cymbalta so he gave me lexapro. I am extremely, extremely sensitive to meds so wanted to know if anyone who is also very sensitive could tell me their first hand experience w/ lexapro as I’m very nervous to start it. He gave me the lowest dose… Any advice or side effects from your first few days and weeks on lexapro would be greatly appreciated. thank very much!

I took lexapro for a while. It is hit and miss. I don't remember a lot of side effects but one I had was sexual. I don't remember what else. It was kind of like an add on drug for me as I was already taking pristiq.

Everybody is different and have different side effects. So what happened to me won't necessarily happen to you.

I would give it a go. It seemed to be easy to come off of for me. I hope that it works for you.

I have fibromyalgia also and know about the pain and depression so I know how much you want some relief. Have you ever tried effexor? It is similar to cymbalta as I remember. I was on it for 20 years or more and I did well on it. It is a SNRI. I also take adderall for the fatigue, you might want to give that a go if the doc will prescribe. It does really help with the fatigue.

I hope that you find what works well for you to relieve the pain and depression.

Thank you so much! No haven’t tried Effexor bc it’s in the same class as cymbalta if I’m not mistaken and pharmacist told me to stay away from those bc of my reaction. And I have tried adderal for fatigue but then I took time off it and felt like I had adrenal burnout so haven’t taken since.

Yes looking for relief from the body pain snd feeling exhausted and depressed sad
