How to stop caring about what people think of you

As I see it (FWIW), it's all about self-sufficiency, or having the ability to live and prosper without needing the help of others. For example, this could mean financial independence (or enough wealth). It could also be some sort of talent or ability that gives you an advantage. Basically, it's anything that lets you live without depending on anyone.

As I recall, there used to be an acronym at Microsoft: FYIFV (F you, I'm fully vested). That is, once your stock options vested and could be exercised, you usually had many millions in the bank overnight. This let you not depend or care about anyone -- ergo, you could say F you to anyone and not really be affected.

Of course, that was the old days. I don't think they even do stock options anymore (and haven't for a couple decades or so).

Other times I chew an ear right off the dearest friend you'd ever want.
