Ladies - I hear you on that! Recently, the depression from the PMS got so bad that I finally had to talk to the doctor about
it. I guess there are a few different options, but he prescribed the birth control pill to help regulate the whole thing. It has been a complete 180 ever since. I still notice a small change, but its not at all like the monsterous darkness that would overtake me before. I have bipolar, so I'm pretty sensitive to any swings, but I would suggest that it is completely something worth talking to your doctor about
if the depression lasts more than a day or two. It was too hard on me not to - the last time, I was in bed for five days, despite doing all the things that you're supposed to (diet, exercise, etc.). I'm not a big fan of throwing pills at problems, but when you've done all the other things right, its too hard on a person to let it all slide. I guess there are also some options for hormone "supplements" (prescript
ion form) that you would take just before you expect the PMS to kick in, and I would think that type of option might be useful for someone who didn't want to use the pill. And I'm told that Vitamin B (B12 maybe?) can be helpful, although I've only had limited success with supplements. I've read that too much salt and not enough water will also add to the PMS mess by upsetting the balance (darn those salt cravings) so if you can moderate the mix, it can help by not adding to the issue.
Take care all and hope that it eases a little,
Putter
