Lexapro?? How has it worked or not worked for you?

Good Evening Everyone!
I have been on anti-depressants for since about 1997, there has been so many advances, new meds & now they have taken me "slowly" off Zoloft & Clonazepam, I am currently on Nuerontin & Lexapro. The Nuerontin is for pain management (fibro) & anxiety, which seems to be one of the better meds ((FOR ME)) with less side effects. I have in the past understood more about the side effects of coming off of an anti-depressant w/o tapering off, but never having so many starting one. I have been on Prozac, Zoloft, Wellbutrin and it just seems like the effects are weighing out the possibility of me remaining on this med, since the minor side effects are what I feel are also counter-acting the Nuerontin's work on my pain management.
My question is the Lexapro. I have been started on Lexapro about 2 weeks ago. Has anyone here had any success with this new med? With or Without Nuerontin?
I am confused about this...is it normal for some & not others? I want to stay well...any help or info (I have been to the websites, talked with my family doc, pain management docs/nurses & psych. doctors about this med & all say that it may not be for me...well DUH!!) But I would appreciate some feedback from those who are or have been on this med. Both positive & negative.

Hi Tracey!

I have been taking Lexapro for about 3 years. It has worked very well for me. I have occassionally (with dr's approval) tapered off this drug to see how things would go, but after 5 or 6 weeks, I realize that I really do need it. I also took it with neurontin for a while and had no trouble with the combination.

I hope this will be a good combination for you!

I guess what I really am hoping that the lexapro can be used at bedtime. I often took my anti-d's at bedtime, but for some reason my doc wanted me to take them both (nuerontin & lexapro) in the morning together w/ a light breakfast. I take Trazadone for my occasional bouts of insomnia. But that I have been on for a nearly 3 months. I don't take it every single night. There will be weeks that go by & I don't need it. Then there are several nights in a row that I do need it.
I just guess that I will also call my doc again today to see about holding off until tonight to take it. I think that I have to allow my body to get used to that med. But at the same time, I don't like having the flu-like symptoms in the mornings.
I can sleep through them allowing my body to adjust. But I will still appreciate any other ideas that may help me through this early stage of med adjustments.

I was on Lexapro for about a year and it wasn't working great. I was switched to Celexa (in the morning) and take Remeron (at night) with it.

I've been on 10mg of Lexapro for about 3 months now. My wife says I have more energy then she's ever seen in me after 10 years of marriage. I do feel better and have a more positive outlook. Also, my anxiety is much better. I started taking it at dinner time and had problems sleeping. I switched to morning time about a month and a half ago which allows me to sleep better and it also seems to be a little more effective for me. I also have Crohn's and have been on Imuran for about 6 months which is helping with SOME of my Crohn's symptoms and has made a big difference in my blood chemistry which may be contributing to my energy level.

I am on 30 mg Lexapro...along with 100 mg Topamax...I cant go on Wellbutrin cause other family members have committed suicide on Wellbutrin.  I liked Lexapro at first works great for anxiety but now crying and sadness and thoughts of death have returned.  So not sure it is the answer.  I have intestinal Spirochetosis.

Hi Jec003,  Welcome to the Depression Forum.  I am so sorry about your family members that have passed.  If you have returning feelings of depression then you really need to contact your physician for a medication change.  Take care....

I was on Lexapro for a few yrs before the Dr added Topax to my daily dose too. I love Lexapro. It is the only anti depression med that I have not had any side effects from - maybe just afew pounds each yr (or could be normal weight gain) I had to switch anti depress meds due to insurance reasons to prozac. 2 months later I am back on Lexapro, been back on it about 3 weeks now. No side affects, my appitite is back. My moods are back to normal. I care about things again & am getting the energy I had before back. I like to take it at night with my Topamax cuz I seem to sleep the best then. I am also on 10 - 15mg of Lexapro. I seem to do better on the lower doses of anti depress meds then on the higher doses. The higher doses is when what I call my "crazy thoughts" come back.

Hey...my "first" depressive dissorder was mild..and i was given 10mg of Lexapro for that. It worked well for a few month. But this year in March I was hospitalized for severe Depression/Anxiety. Obviously the Lexapro wasnt working for me then. Now I'm on Zoloft and Adivan. Lexapro did seem to do the job for my stint with mild depression. But something triggered a really awful episode, so the Lexapro didnt seem to work anymore.

Hopefully it works well for you.

   Hi ,I,ve been on Lexapro for 4 months now .When I first started it ,it almost 2 months to work before it helped me .I,m doing really fine on and not having any problems either .I take 10 mg twice a day ,morning and evening and helps me .I hope you have good luck taking this .
