Article on Strawberries increasing mood and alleviating depression

I read this article in "Women's World" Magazine that it has been shown that eating strawberries help alleviate depression and increase mood...so lately for the past two weeks, have been eating a handful of strawberries every day..and my mood has been so much better.  The Psychiatrist was getting ready to add a medication in conjunction to the Remeron I have been taking and now, I feel I don't need another med.  The strawberries really do work!  Interesting stuff.

Hey Rianna,

It's so glad that strawberries are giving you a lift. I've actually been feeling much better in the last couple of days and I was thinking it was because I've been excerising more (30 min. of strenuous Yoga in the am) and eating healthy. But, maybe it's due to those strawberries that I've been slicing up and putting on top of my cereal or the strawberries that my boss keeps giving me as an afternoon snack! :)

I love them too, i eat large quantities of them, you can try them with cream or sugar :)

I put strawberries and frozen yogurt in the blender and make a smoothie. It's really good. Dee :-)

Wow..am really shocked that my post on strawberries recieved any replies..glad to hear that people are buying them..and I hope they are helping. The only thing is..is that they are spoiling quickly..I put them in the fridge..I buy two cases of them..and they spoil. Are they supposed to be put in the fridge or be left out?  Does anyone know?

Hey Rianna -

Wow, that's a lot of strawberries! I usually put mine in the fridge and they last about a week. I've also heard that they can be frozen and will last about 6 months or so that way. Lastly, you may want to slice 'em up and put 'em in a bit a water and sugar - they're wicked good that way! :) Enjoy!

I haven't given the strawberry thing a try yet but I did think about this post the other day as my friend asked me to go strawberry picking with her so may do that this week!!

I read that about pears too. Quite a while ago I noticed that I felt better after eating pears.

Hi Victoria - I have read that dark Chocolate is good for you and it can also increase mood and well being. I like pears as well and will also give them a try..however..I can't eat skins of fruits so I have to buy the pears in a jar - I wonder if that will have the same effect on mood? The strawberries have been really helping though..and I have gotten lazy and buying the kind that Kroger (grocery store here) slices up and puts in a tub. It is $3.47 compared to the $2.99 I was paying, but they don't go bad as fast as the whole strawberries.

Very interesting about the dark chocolate - didint know that!

Do you think it would work the same if there was a digestive biscuit underneath the chocolate??!!!!!

Have you ever tried drinking tea/coffee/hot choc through a Twix (bite off both ends and use as a straw!)? I defy anyone not to be made happy by *that*! (Well, perhaps the come-down after the sugar rush might not help, but it's very wonderful comfort food while it lasts!)

Cliche SAHM - great question..the article didn't really say..it just said that Strawberries help produce SAM-e (a vital amino acid/protein that we don't get enough of in diets) in the brain. I used to take SAM-e (over the counter supplement) for depression. Maybe I will do a Google research of what is actually in strawberries.

I wonder if the strawberries work as well dipped in chocolate lol I was at the store yesterday and picked up strawberries and dipping chocolate (not dark tho cause i dont like dark)

I havent heard of drinking through a twix however I have drank soda through a twizzler (same concept). I might have to give that a go lol.

I also read somewhere that omega-3 fatty acids found in fish not only help in keeping your heart healthy but also alleviate depression.
