Hi I am new on celexa and have maybe side effects.  nausea, runs, nightmares?  How long does it take to kick in?  only taking 10mgs dr. upped to 20mg.

Hi elc,

Starting any antidepressant can cause side effects. They usually do wear off after a couple of weeks but please speak to your doctor if you are worried. GI symptoms are very common. I felt very nauseaous when I started taking mine but this disappeared after a couple of weeks.
Have you an information leaflet with your meds? This should list the side effects that can occur with this drug.
Try not to worry as this is common with a lot of people and it should go.

Thanks for the reply.  It will hopefully settle out. I have crohns disease so am used to GI upset. Its a nice warm sunny day so I am going to shut this machine off and go get some sun and fresh air.

Hi elc -- I (re)started on Celexa just under a week ago. Lots of nausea to begin with, but it's really eased off now. Wasn't eating much in the first few days so not much chance of getting the runs (!), but had a meal at my friend's house last night and definitely had 'em then (though it could also have been eating rich food after not much of anything for a few days). Haven't had nightmares, but these meds do affect people differently: if they came on with the meds, they should go with the other side effects within a couple of weeks. Anything after 2 weeks is worth checking with your doc. Best of luck to you, my fellow Celaxian!

Seems like you are on a low dose. I take 60 mg a day and have for a couple of years now. Any side effects should go away within a couple of weeks but call your doctor if it gets too bad or lasts longer.

I am on 20 mg myself and have had good luck with it. It took about 3 weeks before I noticed some changes. I hope you find relief soon.

Hey Randy nice to see a familiar name here.  I have met you on the crohn's forum.  You let my daughter use your site for her high school project....she got an 85% by the way!   Today was better, off work until Sept. 5.  Dr. said to rest and lay low but he should come here and try that.  Tonight I have 4 teenage girls here and my nephew is lliving with us now for a bit.  Rest?  Lay low?  LOLOLOL tongue
