I AM LIVING ALONE. MY ROOMATE OF 5 MOS. JUST MOVED OUT, AND I AM VERY DEPRESSED AND AM ON DISABILITY, BUT, HAVE LOADS OF STRESS FROM OTHER ISSUES, NAMELY, CAREGIVER FOR PARENT WHICH IS TAKING IT'S TOLL ON ME.

Sorry you are having such a hard time. 

Caregiving, by itself, is one of the most stressful and often depressing chores anyone can take on.  I don't remember the author, but if you can find and read a book titled "The 36 hour day" it will help put your role as caregiver into perspective.  I'm sure it's available at Amazon - should be required reading.

Also, check out the organization NFCA (National Family Caregivers Assn) and request their publications.  Website for additional info is  www.thefamilycaregiver.org

Hi Ruth,

Welome to the healing well forum. Sorry you are having a hard time. Are you recieveing any help with your depression. You should contact your doctor for some help with how you are feeling and possibly some form of counselling would benefit you too to be able to talk about things that are happening in your life.
Wmnak gave you some very good advice about the caregivers support. You could look into recieving some help with that too.

Living alone with depression can be challanging.  Especially if you are not getting support from somewhere.  I know, I've been doing it for almost 13 years now.  I don't know about caregivers but I know there is support out there for you.  I would google it and see what comes up.

Hello Ruth I am sorry to hear that youare so depressed. You did not say whether or not you were on meds for your depression, I suggest that you should see a therapist and maybe get a case manager to help you tend to your affairs since you are so overwhelmed yourself. Case managers help take the stress off of you by helping you tend to your affairs so that the stress level is not as overwhelming. Being a caregiver is one of the most impressice of jobs and sometimes the most depresxing for someone depressed. Could you get help in helping with the person you are caring for to give you a break from time to time so that you have time to get away from the stress and depression for a bit each week. Maybe even having a church member or another aide come in 1 or 2 days a week may be helpful until you are feeling better to help you get back to feeling less overwhelmed yourself. Families are a mixed blessing aren't they? Mine is such a weird and disfunctional family that they make The Simpsons seem like The Waltons. Just a word from one or two family members can hurt me so much and do further damage to my low self esteem. But we give out so much love to them if they only could see or feel it.
