Hello.  I have a question about medication for anxiety.  The doctor had perscribed effexor for me and after taking one pill had my left arm and hand swell up.  He said this would not happen with this pill but I am at a loss to understand why this would happen.  Has anyone taken this pill and had any problems.

I would call your doc and tell him what is going on. I haven't taken it, but it doesn't sound good.

I took Effexor XR 225 mg. for over 5 years & in July (with my Psychiatrist's supervision) tapered down & went off. I had horrible withdrawal symptoms-nausea, headaches, chills/sweats, dizziness, brain zaps, etc...The swelling you experienced could be an allergic reaction...please call your doc immediately.

Hi everyone.  Thanks for the replies.  I did tell the doctor about the swelling and he told me that would never happen.  This after going to the pharmacist and he thought I was having a reaction.  I am not having much luck with this doctor but since there are no other doctors available cannot change.  Have had him for 6 years and he doesn't ever look back at my files from my previous doctor which would tell him what I am allergic to.  It is a long long story about him.  Thanks again.
