At one point, I was taking 4 antidepressants. I have taken Wellbutrin XL 450 mg. in the past & it was a good antidepressant. Sometimes, an "antidepressant cocktail" is prescribed because each antidepressant works on different aspects of the brain chemistry (mood, cognition & behavior). For example, Wellbutrin primarily works with Dopamine which helps with attention, motivation, pleasure & reward. I received this information from my old Psychiatrist & it is a handout which discusses the insights on neurotransmitters. At any rate, it is common to take more than 1 antidepressant.
Take Care.
