I really don't know what to do

My mom took her Trazodone last night for the first time (and the last) and she told me that she will never take it again. It made her sick, dizzy and didn't help her sleep. She also told me that she is not going back to the psychiatrist that she saw only one time. Also, she's not trying anymore medications anymore, thats it, she's done. She'll keep going to the pschycologist but the insurance company approved a certain amount of visits and after that, that's probably it with that too. She has alot of health problems but I think alot of it is due to the depression. When I told her to do what you want because you don't listen to what I have to say anyway's, she said well, I did see the psychiatrist like you said didn't I? That's not the point. She just doesn't seem to be into getting better. If you don't like one doctor, keep trying, if one medication doesn't work, find another one. But I think she's giving up. I guess there's nothing else I can do. Sorry to keep sounding like a broken record.

Hi Dee - I'm sorry to hear about your Mom. NOW, you have to take care of YOU. I know that you care about your Mom and probably feel pretty helpless at this point but if she refuses to help herself then their is not a lot you can do. I would continue to encourage her and tell her "Mom, I'm encouraging you to do this because I care about you." I want you to love yourself as much as I love you. Will you please keep trying to find a medication that works? I don't want to lose you." In your own words. Maybe a psychologist can help you to deal with all of this. I hope things get better. *Dee - you are a wonderful human being! Standing by your mum when she is at an all time low is a very brave thing to do..especially when all she feels like doing is giving up right now (very frustrating!)
Medications are not for eveyone - and when you are feeling down taking them can be a really BIG issue and downright scarey! Do you think that your mum would see a councillor - maybe there is an underlying reason why she feels soo bad - she may not realise but being able to talk to someone on neutral ground may help heaps!

Maree, Thank you for that. You are right when you say medications might not be right for everyone, sometimes I think mom might be one of those people. As of right now, she put herself back on Wellbutrin, one of the only meds she can tolerate. She just needs to give it a chance. She is seeing a pschycologist once a week and I hope she sticks with it. I just keep telling myself I'm doing the best I can.

Hopefulmigrainer, I've thought about seeing someone myself. I think it might help too. I know I have to take care of myself, it's hard and the migraines are getting worse so I know thats a big sign since I was doing pretty good. Thank you for being there when I just need someone to listen.

I'm glad I joined this site. I really only have one very close friend that I can talk to that I know really understands. You should hear some of the comments I get from the rest. And you can also tell half the time it goes in one ear and out the other. It's nice to know that there are people out there that just get it.
