effexor and alcohol

do all antidepressants say you shouldn't drink with them? or is especially the case with effexor? can it damage your liver even if you're not a total boozebag? experiences?

It's not a good idea to drink alcohol while taking an antidepressant. For one thing, if you're suffering from depression, alcohol will make it worse since it acts as a CNS depressant. The other is it tends to interfere with the theraputic response to the drug in your brain.

Some people are able to have one or two drinks once they are stable on a particular medication, but this is unpredictable. Others have side effects that are unpleasant.

I take effexor and do not drink with it as I know that alcohol is a natural depressant and can just work against my meds. Drinking with anti depressants also increases the sedative effect.

I once drank a little more than I intended to when I was on the lower dose of Effexor (75) and I had very weird sensations all over my body. They were not exactly pleasant. Kind of learned my lesson on that one. So I usually swear of alcohol all together right now, especially since I'm now taking 325 of Effexor and I imagine the sensations would be worse/stronger. Anyways, just thought I'd share my experiences.
