I have posted here previously about my brother who has been suffering from depression for over 6 months now. He has a history of depression and the last time he became depressed he was given ect and this helped him recover. In January and February this year he was in hospital and had a course of ect (10 sessions) and they did not help him at all. The doctor wanted him to have more ect, but he had had enough. He came home from hospital in March and he has been on the same meds for the last 3 months with no improvement. He has not worked for many years now and he has this great sense of urgency about getting a job, but he believes he is unemployable. He cries for hours every morning and I told him to ask his doctor to change his meds, but the doctor said he does not know what to prescribe. I suggested he should ask the doctor to admit him to hospital for observation so the staff can see what is happening with him. I even suggested that he should change doctors as this doctor does not seem to understand how to treat him. I am even wondering if he SHOULD have further ect as one of the treating doctors believed he should have. I really would like some input from others out there as to what you believe would be the next best move. I am at a total loss at present.
