Help...Antidepressant # 6 fails. Cymbalta??

Hi everyone...I am new to this forum. I posted to two others but received no feedback so am thinking I need to start my own.

I have been on AD for 13 yr now. The latest being lexapro (2o mg/3 yr) They have all stopped working after so much time. I am presently without a therapist due to ins. chgs. but am ready to pay old therapist just to talk to someone who knows my history. The worse part of the depression returning is it seems to get worse every time or else I am just sick of fighting it all the time. I feel like no one understands what I am going thru. Every move I make physically hurts...does anyone know what I mean? Just getting dressed is exhausting...forget leaving the house, cleaning, paying bills, laundry. As soon as my kids leave for school and husband leaves for work I go back to bed to escape. I think the only AD I haven' tried is Cymbalta. Does anyone have any good news about this one? Thanks for reading.

My partner suffers from depression and he recently also experienced the same as you; his meds (Lexapro) affect wore off.  This latest depressive episode he is experiencing is the worst he has had yet and it gets worse; his docs are not sure what to re-dx him with.  He has agreed to go off both his AD and Benzo meds all together and start from the bottom again, with his Pdoc and his therapist.  He has no idea now what meds they will prescribe to him and what they'll dx him with now.  He hasn't tried Cymbalta so I couldn't offer any info with that question. 

Members herr are really great and I am sure they will offer much more information thaqn what I have given you.

Wickedly, Just curious...how long was your partner on lexapro?? and what dose?? Has he tried all the others like me?? My husband is a pharmacist so I am drilling him for info. he says Cymbalta is not as "popular" as lexapro but could just be marketing. He has heard good things about Cymbalta as well. He brought me home some samples last night so I will keep you posted. I will pray everyday for it to work...my biggest fear is that I will run out of AD to try someday....I also am thinking my bad depression comes in the fall....

My partner has been using Lexapro for about 1.5 years when it started not having an affect on him.   Like you he said he fears that one day they won't have any ADs for him to use. BUT, I know for sure this is the depression talking and not him.  I know Cymbalta is one of the newest ADs to come out but they have many more in the works and I have plenty of faith he will be just fine once he finds one that works.

I do have a concern though; the last depressive episode before this one was 1.5 years ago.  Before that one it was about 2 years, then prior to that it was 3 years.  So I am not sure if it's just a matter of the meds or if there is an actual pattern.  Each episode is coming on more frequently and shortening the balanced time in between. 

I will be asking some of my buds in my next support group about this to see what their thoughts are and also my therapist this week as well.

I'll keep you posted.

Welcome to Healing Well.........you lucked out........lol.  I am on Cymbalta and have been as high as 120 mg per day but back down to 60 mg per day.  thisis the lowest therapeutic dose I have been told by my Pdoc.

At the higher dose I just felt drugged all the time.

Everyone has different sx with their depression and many have aches and pains and find they want to just stay in bed.  I can only stay in bed so long as I am worse if I can't sleep and just lay there.

You can always just get up and try coming online and talking to others here in the forum.

There is something comforting about baring your soul to the members of HW and still being able to be anonymous.
