My wonderful, loving, careing, idol, substitute mom died today.

Star,

I am so very sorry for your loss.  I know she was more than just a cousin to you.  She was your best friend/sister and your substitute mother.  So, you've lost a big part of your family.   But please know that she is no longer in pain.  I know that's only a little comfort for the pain you're feeling right now here on earth, as I'm sure her husband is also.

Please continue with your therapy and please stay with your family here at HealingWell.  We love and care about you Star, so please stay in touch with us and let us know how you are doing.  We want to be here for you.  I know you will have your therapist, but we are your support group family.  You can email most of us if you need to by just clicking on our names.

This is the first time today i have been able to move out of my chair. I am numb I feel absoulutly nothing.

The grieving process can take a long time star. Just take one day at a time and keep talking. You will get through this. You are in my thoughts.

I am feeling a little better today. I have to tell everyone about the flowers. A year ago I planted a tree in my front yard in honor of my brother who died last year. Glynis (my cousin) asked me to plant flowers, Lavenders under it because she loved him so much. When I planted it I thought in the summer when I see these flowers I can remember my wonderful cousin. On the way home from the drug store yesterday I payed "God please give me a sign so that I know Glynis is o.k. and out of pain." We have had a killing frost here and everything that was in bloom died. When I got home I looked at the tree and underneath it the Lavenders were blooming. Impossible it is cold here. Glynis told me that when she died if she could she would send me a sign to say she was all right, and she did. I loved her so much and she knew it.

Dear Star,

I know how much your cousin meant to you, please accept my sincere sympathy.  Your story about the Lavenders was touching and I am glad it gave you some peace.

In order to survive and thrive after the death of a loved one, it is necessary to move at your own pace through various phases of grief. Please do it your way as there is no right or wrong way.  Give yourself permission to feel sad or to smile at the memories you made together with this special person in your life.
