Hello!

I have a brother who is dealing with depression.  I have told him that he should see a therapist/psychologist.  He says he cannot afford to see one.  Can anyone recommend a resource (maybe a support group, free counseling) in Rochester, Minnesota where he might be able to get help?  I have also suggested that he might want to confide with a priest/pastor.  He does not live near any family.  He does keep in touch via telephone, but family can only do so much.

I would definitely recommend this forum to him, but he does not have a computer.

I just was wondering that if we can't find something in his area right now, could you look for a book to get him on cognitive behavioral therapy. This can help a lot. You can get books on depression easily on line and maybe send it to him.

I will look for resources for you.

I found a number for a psycologist in Rochester Minn.

He will have to check into human resources or call this number to see about getting help to pay for his visits. Usually if you don't have insurance, there are programs to help you with mental health issues. Good luck, I sure hope that this helps.

His employer most likely has an EAP, employee assistance program. The only thing the employer is told is how many people have used it and they are billed for that many people....no names or diagnosis is shared. I'm not even sure how often the billing is. At any rate, a certain number of visits are paid for, the number is determined by the employer and would be in his hiring packet or benefits package. Actually, the HR office usually has small wallet cards available throughout places so they can be picked up by an employee without detection from others.
