Lexapro and Wellbutrin

I've been on Lexapro 10 mg. for about 4 months.  I've gained 15 lbs.  I was  wondering if anyone out there is on Lexapro 10mg and Wellbutrin 150 mg.  Perhaps, putting Wellbutrin into the equation will help me be motivated more and stop the cravings.  Any feedback for me?  My depression and anxiety is good with the Lexapro alone, however, I can't take the tiredness and no motivation.  Judy

Hi Dyemondgirl,

I would like that welcome you to Healing Well depression forum. There have been a lot of posts about lexapro and about welbutrin. You might even want to read back about them. You might get more insight on the medications.

As far as I know, welbutrin is good for energy and motivation. It helped me with that issue. Also helped my thinking. And I did lose weight when I started taking it. So that might be an option for you. Did your doctor mention it to you?

I hope that you get some more posts on this topic to help you decide what to do.

Thank you so much for your quick reply.  As you mentioned, you did take Wellbutrin but did it increase your anxiety at all?  Because I am a sufferer of panic attacks and I thought perhaps the Wellbutrin would trigger them.  Thanks so much Karen, hugs to you too.

This is Kitt and Welcome to HealingWell and the Depression forum.  We are so glad you found us.

The AD's have been notorious for putting on weight.  I believe there is another thread on here now that is about Lexapro too. You may want to browse that one.

Wellbutrin is the only med I know of from experience of friends that lost weight on that med.  It may offset the Lexapro.  I am on Cymbalta and I have gained.  My Pdoc says it is because the med makes you hungry...........dah. 

IMHO each person's metabolism reacts differently to the combo of meds.  I am sure you will hear from other members.

Please keep on posting as the members here are wise and supportive.

Sorry I got ur name wrong.  I also know that Wellbutrin xl for some reason increased my anxiety.  Has anyone experienced this?

The wellbutrin did make me a little nervous. So I would say that it increased my anxiety some. But you could possibly take an anxiety medication to offset that. I would go by what your doctor recommends and see what happens. Effexor is another anti depressant that isn't suppose to cause weight gain, though I have read where people have experienced weight gain.

I hope that you find what is right for you.

Karen is right an anti anxiety med will help decrease the nervousness from the wellbutrin, im on klonipin, seems to help the anxiety. ii have not lost any weight yet though, seem a little more motivated, then before, which is good.

Good luck to you, see what your doc has to say, and go from there.....

What about Paxil? How do I find out what the best is for what, like someone mentioned Welbutrin is good for motivation energy, what about Paxil?

Paxil has made me hungry as ever... which I guess is good because I've a less than normal appetitite. Hopefully I'll be able to fill out my "frame".

I ddint like paxil, it made me sick, but it has worked great for some I have heard..
