Hey all,

Just found this place, though I'd introduce myself.
I'm 22 yo, after about 7 months of therapy starting on AD medication. Paxil, 10mg starting, then up 20mg.
I guess therapy wasn't going anywhere for me (I just felt it wasn't doing anything), I guess it's more of a "chemical" thing.
So I'm trying to find out as much as I can about the medication, just trying to understand exactly what kind of feeling. Though I've been feeling like I'm under a cloud for almost all my life (dysthymic), hopefully there will be some resolution in the future.

Welcome to HealingWell and the Depression forum.  I am so glad you found us.  I know sometimes it takes both medication and then therapy to help you get to the light at the end of the tunnel.

Please share more about yourself if you would like.  We do not judge and we are happy to have you here in our wonderful forum.

We know where your coming from and what your going through.

Welcome Headinthesky..

First thing I would like to say to you is 'You are not alone' - there's always someone here willing to be your support system when times are rough..we are soo lucky here at HW. I see you have you have done brave things lately :-)  seeking help thru medication and counselling - an excellent start on the road to feeling better. Maybe you could try journaling your thoughts for a while - let the meds really take effect - then if you feel inclined try counselling again.

I just wanted to say that I am so happy that you found us. You have come to a good place, I feel that you will be happy that you came. The people here are very kind and understanding. We all have gone through a lot and can relate.

Thanks everyone for the replies! It's good to know that even though we are strangers, we have something which brings us together and makes us stronger.


I am reading about the effects of Paxil when coming off of it, should I insist to my Dr to switch to another medication before it gets difficult, or are the withdrawal symptoms common to all medications?

Hi Sky,

I think that a lot of the AD's are different in going off of them. Some are easier than others. I am taking effexor and it is one of the harder ones to quit. The withdrawal symptoms are horrible. But when I went off of paxil, I went on to another one so it wasn't hard.
