Ever have one of those days that just doesn't start out that well and doesn't get much better? I got to work on time, which can be a struggle for me, but I did it. And waiting for me in my chair were a whole bunch of letters that I printed out right before I left late last night. Come to find out the printer ran out of paper and someone was kind enough to put more paper in. The only thing is they put it in backwards, so all of the letters I printed were printed upside down on official letterhead. Grr. So, I unloaded and reloaded the copier and reprinted them all. (I was really upset that the person who noticed the mistake didn't reload it themselves! But, I got over it fairly soon.)
When I went to give the letters to my supervisor to sign (right side up), she was in disbelieve that there were so many of them (150+). She gets mad at me and starts telling me, in front of my other supervisor and our intern, that next time I have to insert her signature as a pdf. And I explain to her that I need her signature as a pdf then. (She had said she would do it earlier this week, but never did.) Then, she goes on to say that she thought we agreed not to do include certain groups, which would have cut the number of letters nearly in half or more! Why, in the world did I stay late last night then, which meant blowing off my boyfriend by telling him that I couldn't get together with him, since I had to print out a whole bunch of useless letters? (They were already a day late, since she couldn't make up her mind about who we should send them to.)
But, what is really frustrating is my other supervisor encourages me to delegate tasks like this to our intern. That way, I can spend my time on the projects I should be working on. But, not this supervisor - she's always dumping things on me at the last minute with absolutely no idea of the amount of time it'll take to accomplish them or who might be better fit to do them. Then she always says stuff like "Ugh, there too much work to do!" How, in the world is there too much work to do, if I'm doing it all for her? (I secured the locations for the meetings, drafted all 150+ letters, invited all VIPs, recruited people to attend, thanked the right people, and will be developing the ppt.) What does she have to do besides show up?
I just wish that I actually got to use the skills I have and get the work done that I'm paid to do, rather than doing other people's jobs. Plus, one of the tasks that I had delegated to our intern, she gave up on. She figured that she had done enough on it and that I should finish it! What kind of an attitude is that? She would never try that with either of my supervisors! Double Grr.
On the brighter side, one of my friends just called and we made plans to go out to dinner Sat. night. She just started a new job and we're gonna celebrate! :) Kinda ironic, eh? It should be fun! :)
Thanks for letting me vent.
