Anyone have experience with this?  Dr. suggested it, Lexapro worked quite well but made me gain weight (so sad) but I have realized my brain can not function on its own, so I must take something.  Also, if weight gain is an issue for others does cutting the dose help?

Prestiq is suppose to be a close cousin to effexor and effexor doesn't cause weight gain, at least that is what they say.

It is related to the timed released version of Effexor. I used it for a month off of samples from my Dr. It worked well but found out my insurance didn't cover it so we had to make a switch. I have used Effexor XR and it worked well until I had to change because it was droped from my insurance formulary. Good luck in finding the answers you are looking for.

Hi Cheerdad,

If you dont' mind my asking, what did they give you in place of the effexor? I take effexor now, 375 mg a day. I just hope that my insurance never quits paying for it. I tried to go off of it once and it wasn't much fun.

To the best of my knowledge this is an SSNI drugs and I use Cymbalta which my physician swears does not cause weight gain...........well I agree to disagree with her but I want off the med as I have gained a lot of weight on this SSNI.  It could be me as each person is different.  I hope this new switch in meds works for you.

Thanks for all your input.  Funny thing is Lexapro is not supposed to cause weight gain either...but it seems too, again everyone is different.

Anyone had any luck with weight issues by switching SSRI's?  Just curious because if one gains weight on a drug that is least likely to cause weight gain, that could perhaps mean all serotonin drugs cause weight gain.  So I get to choose...Fat or Crazy :)

Nothing is free, always a price to pay :(
