Experience with Wellbutrin XL

I am pretty new here. My husband has just started this week with 300mg Wellbutrin XL in the morning. I think I see some progress with his lying around less, but I also see some pacing. Is this a normal consequence of taking Wellbutrin? He is also taking 30 mg Cymbalta and 1and 1/2 mg risperdal. I would appreciate any feedback on your experiences with wellbutrin. Has it made a big difference with your depression and how long did you need to be on it before you noticed any improvement?

I am working with Wellbutrin and I found the 300 mg to anxiety producing, headache every day and hand tremors and muscle twitching.  I am now on 150 mg a day of Welbutrin and 60 mg f cymbalta.  I have been fighting the side effects but as I increased the dose of Wellbutin I found I felt worse.

So we will se how the new plan works.  On 300mg I was also in tears everyday and afraid to leave home.

Hi Debbie,

A high dose of wellbutrin also made me nervous. But if he just started taking it, that might go away. I also took risperdol. It really helped me. My only problem there was weight gain. I take abilify instead now.

I hope that your husband finds what works for him. Best wishes to you both. Keep posting. Hopefully somebody else will have more info for you.

My psyc has me on 500 mg of Welbutrin XL. I take one first thing in the morning and one before noon. One of the side affects is insomnia and anxiety. Because of the anxiety I also take prozac. The combination has been working well for me. I do carry Xanax for when the anxiety level increase beyond my coping capability. Good luck and I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

I was wondering how long does it take before Wellbutrin XL takes effect? Should I notice positive changes right away or does it take 4-6 weeks like the other antidepressants? My husband has been on 300 mg Bupropion SR for 1 week then Wellbutrin XL for almost a week now. He has been on several other antidepressants and had to switch because of side effects or in the case of cymbalta there just was not any effects. He is still taking 30 mg with the wellbutrin XL 300 as he is tapering off the cymbalta. He is also on 1 and 1/2 mg risperdal because his depression has psychotic features which now, hopefully are gone.

Any input would be appreciated.

Everyone is different and until you reacha theraputic level it is hard to say when to notice a change in your depression.  I was on it for about 4 weeks but the side effects were just to bad for me.  Now I wish I was like Randy who is having great luck with the Wellbutrin.

I hope this works for your husband.
