Hi All I have started taking prozac 20mg but there was a mix up in the first order of them and they gave me 20 mg of the generic fluoxetine 20mg and the pharmacy wouldn't take them back. I have been on the reg prozac for 4 weeks and don't feel much different except very tired. I asked my doc since I had the prozac and generic if i could just take both together to increase my meds to 40 mg. She said it is the same stuff so that would be fine. Well I am just asking if anyone has ever taken these 2 together. It just seems like my doc always is just so non caring about meds so just asking other opinions on here. I am in the process of getting another doc b/c i have been on many meds and she never follows up or wants to see me just doles out the different meds to me if one doesn't work she goes to another one. I want someone who cares.

I think you are right to seek a new physician.  Yours is not doing you justice.

The FDA requires all generic manufacturers to prove that a generic drug will have the same medical result as its Name-Brand equivalent by measuring the rate and extent of drug absorption. The generic drug should treat your illness or condition with the same success and safety as its brand name equivalent. Generics have to meet the same meticulous requirements as Name-Brand drugs.

I hope that helps you wit the question re the generic mixing with the trade name meds.

I had to try a lot of different meds before I found what was right for me. So that could be what she is doing. Though it seems that she would be explaining things better to you.

I agree with Kitt, it might be time to look for a different doctor. If you aren't feeling like she is trying to help you, you need to move on until you find the right one for you. You deserve nothing less. I know how hard it is when you can't relate with your doctor. You feel really uncomfortable.

If your doctor doesnt care, then I would definately change. But as Kitt & Karen have said, Branded drugs (E.g. Prozac) are the same as their generic counterpart (E.g. Fluoxetine). Fortunately this is not a problem we get very often here in the UK with prescription meds, although the stuff you buy over the counter causes a problem (usually Antihistamines)
