Hello everybody,

The other day I touched on appearance,  today I was wondering, Do you care about what others think about you?  And if you do, why? 

I have a problem of not caring about what other's think about me.  If they don't like me, they can take a flying you know what.  I know that we don't like everybody and not everybody likes us.  So I just keep that in mind.  I dress to be comfortable and if it offends somebody, oh well.  They will get over it.  But I think most people don't judge you on appearance unless it is for a job interview or something.

OH my, yes I do and I believe it is my self esteem issues.  I want to be liked and I want people to care about me.

I am still learning that there are some not so nice people in this world and I am always amazed to find out they can be mean and cruel................

I want friends and family,  I need the security of knowing I am liked or I fall into stinkin thinkin and feel I am worthless if I feel someone does not like me.  True Confessions............................dah.

i'm sort of like skitt , i hate it when someone dislikes me for any reason, it hurts and i try to see if i can change a little. however i still like to ignore what some mean people say about me , because sometimes they do it to bring me down or something, so i try not to show that i care.

yes and no. lol No, because I enjoy being my own person with my own personality and style!
And, yes, because I am slightly paranoid! lol I just dont like people starting at me with faces that read "look at what shes wearing, look at her hair..etc"

So, its a yes and no...depending on my mood and such! lol And of course, my confidence!

Always remember that when people are mean to us, it is their problem. They aren't happy, because happy people wouldn't need to be mean. Sometimes they are jealous too. And sometimes it is low self esteem. So generally when people are not so kind, it is their own problem and they have to work that out. We are all special and worthy of love and compassion.

I worry about what others think about my appearance so I always try to look nice when I go out even to the grocery store.  I live in a very gossipy town and people are always talking and criticizing.  It has a lot to do with self esteem issues.  I am terribly sensitive so I take things very personally.  I feel if I look nice and dress well nobody will be able to talk against me.  I try to work on my sensitivity issues but I have been this way since childhood.  I feel I have to "measure up," Stupid, I guess but I would suffer for days if I knew people were saying things about me.

To be honest I care more about what I think of myself especially when it comes to appearance, I like to look in the mirror & think I look nice & I like to look at other girls & think I look nice compared to them. But I'm not actually that bothered what other people think of the way that I look. Its more self critical. However I do like people to like me because of my personality and I am concerned what they think in that respect & I don't like it when ppl don't like me, tho I am quite shy & this can sometimes come accross as arrogance so sumtimes ppl get a bad first impression, I worry about that!

I agree that we shouldn't care and that others are simply judgemental because of their own experiences. Nevertheless, I find it so difficult to confront people when my worst self critic is me. I assume that there exist's this collective agreement between my thoughts and the perception's of others. I am aware that this isn't possible, but it's still very difficult to overcome. So much so, that I choose not to face the world and I limit myself to the confines of my space. I am aware that I shouldn't care about what other's think of me, yet I can't seem to get passed that.

Hi Johnny,

I would like to welcome you to the depression forum. I think really deep down we do worry about what other people think of us. Even if we don't think that we do.

I also think that it is easier to limit our exposure to others, then we don't have the problem at all. But eventually we have to go out amongst the rest of the world. So we should be proud of who we are no matter what.
