Hi Solo, Red and Others

This is to advise you that the clouds Have lifted and I am out of the depression. For how long ? Who knows ? Anyway, this one lasted about 68 days and I DON'T know why I am out of it. I am back to doing things around the house, helping others, and generally feeling better.

So. Do not think you won't get better if you are depressed. My Effexor (150) will be running out this weekend and I have a new prescription for a reduced dosage of (75) for the next 6 months. Doctor says "let's try it and if you have trouble, call me"

My wife keeps a diary, and in reading year 1968 when I was 27 it mentioned that I was depressed. Never got treated for it until I was 55. Go figure.

i hope the clouds stay lifted for you for a long time!!

i am waiting for the day when i pop my head thru the clouds and feel the warmth of the sun on my face again - i don't think it will be too long now, at least i hope not!!

in your post, are you saying that you were depressed from the age of 27 until just now? cos that is a LONG time!!!!!  I guess it is something that comes and goes with all of us at different times in our lives. maybe some people get it worse than others; outside factors often determine much of what we feel. in my experience, some people seem to thrive on being depressed and use it as an excuse to behave badly, never taking responsibility for themselves or their actions ( im speaking about my ex here, not anyone here!!) - well, i dont think im one of those people - i too am waiting for the sun to shine in my life again.

im so glad you're feeling better Ralph - im sure you have given many people here hope and a faith that things can and DO get better!! stay happy :)

Ralph! I'm so happy! You're feeling better. Makes me feel good knowing that your life will be easier and you can really enjoy yourself and everyone! I'm really glad you told us! If I was there now, Man, you'd be getting a great ol' bear hug from me!

Don't disappear just cuz you're feeling better...We still wanna know how you're doing and feel how happy you are!!

lol......guess we can ride on your coat tails and live a little sunshine threw your break threw. :) that's great news! any good news is ALWAYS welcome. we can use all we can get.

I am thinking now that what I had was minor depressions when I was in my 20s and 30s. Things didn't get really bad until about 7 or 8 years ago. (mid 50s)

Have any of you thought of these things as being genetic ? I think that my father may have been depressed at various times in his life. I also thought that my only brother, who died in 1986 at the age of 50 because of alcohol abuse, may have use drinking as a solution to depression.

These thoughts run through ones mind while searching for answers. Have you been down this road before?

IN the 50s and 60s you rarely heard of depression. It was always referred to as "A Nervous Breakdown"

hi ralph, funnily enough, someone said that to me only last week!!! that depression WAS genetic - well...... may be that is an excuse and makes it TOO easy for us to give in to the depression, but, on the other hand, it could explain a lot!! i have also heard that addiction is genetic - i worried for years that my son would become an alcoholic like his father, even tho I had removed him from the "situation" when he was a baby, altho they stayed in regular contact. I spent most of his growing years worried sick about it, but he actually seems to have gone the other way - adamant that he is NOT going to be like his father. He does, however, suffer from depression and anxiety, so maybe these things come out in different ways. Or maybe the fact that his father was "absent" has caused his depression - ????? I guess we'll never truly know the answer to some things. all we can really do is love one another and reach out a helping hand when someone we care for is drowning.
