Creativity barred due to meds?

After a 4 months of horrible side effects from abilify my pdoc. took me off of it and now I'm on only 60mgs. of Cymbalta and feel great. But I'm having trouble with creativity. I used to paint and I write poetry but I feel blocked. I make attempts but the work is no good. Could the Cymbalta be affecting my creativity? If so how can I tap back in without going off it. Has anyone had this experience and been able to be creative while being on meds. If so could you please share some ideas of how you pushed through?

I am an artist too. I find that I paint more when I am depressed. This could be the same for you too. Are you feeling better on the cymbalta? If so, this could be what is going on. You will get your inspiration back, I am sure.

Thanks for your time getting by...perhaps you are right. I am rather hypo-manic in a good way...more up and I am feeling better...thanks. How is your artworld going? What are you painting?

Hi Zapped, creating even pictures and poems while being even is good enough for me.
I like this new perception. I can just be the way I am now and slowly work on things
and be happy with the process. My high painting flowed out like a waterfall and they were
dynamic and bold but honestly, they aren't paintings I like on the wall...they make me feel
jittery. My new paintings are more thoughtful and unique but almost too childlike. But maybe that's just where I am right now. Thanks so much for sharing with me because now I'm not
going to give up.

I paint a lot of wild life. But I am a surealist so I see things in my own way. I use a lot of black. I paint wolves and tigers mostly. I started a bear but haven't worked on it in over a year. And I have been feeling good. But I am not manic, so there is a difference there. I am either depressed or not. Right now I think I have the right med combination. So that helps.

yeah redlightning, i too have and are still blocked. making slow comebacks with the setting of small goals. me, poetry, snooker-8 ball, and academia. well i am doing the later with ferver. my poety has come out a bit here on hw. maybe i should have another crack. also i want to write a book about my whole and complete life-warts and all. small steps......whiich get a little bigger. excellent post and extremely relevant. thx for sharing. i eally enjoy helping others, and i am very glad i found this wonderful site -that has beautiful people on it. with loving compassion. jamie
