Thanks Jamie! I think you are right and he is a bit frightened. As should be expected. It is his decision for sure, not one I would care to make. The therapist appt went well and she was blunt in the fact that he needs to start giving to the relationship despite his depression or it will end. Depression does not give him a right to treat me with disrespect and constant criticism. Time will tell.

exactly. maybe he can improve his situation and yours to by giving a little to you. i think he needs to hear this, and if you have told this to him adnausem, then maybe it's treatment or bust? i do not like saying this but i am worried for your wellbeing to jenn. with compassion. jamie

I am good Jamie!! I have two sons who I have a great relationship with and they keep me busy and full of conversation. They are 17 and 14 so it's adult conversation! I will admit to getting exhausted with the whole thing and something has to give......His therapist told him that tuesday night. Glad someonoe other than me is telling him he is sinking his ship unless he shapes up. I am giving it 6 months and if things are no better then I am leaving. If things are improving I will gie it 6 more months to ensure we are able to maintain what was built. Otherwise.....bah bye!

skull   skull zapped, you obviously do not know me well. nor have you read my posts correctly on ECT. my research as a mental health consumer is extremely thorough, and i have had it, YOU HAVE NOT!! also my discretion with my gp is purely professional in terms of my treatment or suggestions to those receiving it. i am a person whom understands the difference between ancedotal and medical based treatment outcomes. jamie skull devil devil   esp in my country, ausralia, and ECT is performed differently around the world also. i am not here to debate right or wrong, just the effectiveness on resistant type depression, not for extreme psychosis, of which is only performed under rare conditions. what do you think that psych hospitals and triage departments have a needle full of Largactil for!!! jamie.

i apologise for getting angry, it saved my life, and lives of many consumers i know. yes my depression at the time was so severe that i was not eating, drinking, nor was i well enough to know to take my medications. i will take the short term memory loss any day to be alive, and as for maintence i know many people who have this rather than medication!! the medications i hve been on in the past have been far far detrimental to my mind than a course of ECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND TO MY BODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hopefully i need not explain. the sequale of abuse i suffered has caused a total repression and suppression of my youth, the treatment has actually helped understand this. from 13 down i have no memories, yes i know now, but what about those good times? i have suffered enough. i am fighting back. after 28 admissions, a six month inpatient program, ECT, YRS AND YRS OF PSYCHIATRIC CARE, homelessness, family disintergration and pain i am coming thru the black hole that was my past. here and now my friend. jamie

Jamie, thanks for the encouraging words, I raelly needed it this week.
IF I can say this and not get edited, I did not measure one of my liquid meds and just took and swallow, ended up being a big swallow and I was , well intoxicated. and really when I went to sleep i didn't care if woke up, so I took an ambien on top of it. Today, that scares me. There are things I want in life. ECT "cured" me of debilitating seizures, it was scary, the memory loss is no fun, but I can drive today, I can go shopping without an ambulance being called, I can wake up without being so afraid, b/c of ECT.
It does need to be researched, you do need to seriously talk to your doctors about it, and be ready for some side effects, but its not like it used to be. They don't strap you down to a chair anymore, its like any othere medical procedure for the most part.
Unfortunatley the only place that does ECT anywhere close to where I live will not take TennCare Blue care, so I don't have that option for my depression. IF I did, I would probably do it.

  1. thx 4 your support, am so wound up that i can't sleep. ECT definately saved my life, if i could have maintenance i would. appreciate your kindness and thx for your courage in talking about ECT. My lady has an electrode in her head for uncontrolable seizures. thank god it is not still in the era of one flew over the cucko's nest! or insulin sleep therapy, or god forbid lubotomies!!!!! with compassion my friend.

Thanks all for you input and passion. Time will tell what DH decides to do and there is no pressure on my end zapped it is HIS decision not mine. I have other decisions of my own to make. Mainly if I want to continue to live the way I am living. I am thinking of a separation I need some time to find myslef again and have some calm in my life ........only then can I make a decision on whether to stay or go. This has nothing to do with ECT or no ECT......either way the depression has gotten so bad it controls our lives and I do not like to live in the cloud of this.

yeah i totally understand jenn. you need some you time for you. sorry i did not mean to deflect from the post thread, am sorry for doing this jenn, but in terms of being a mental health advocate and consumer i am like a nasty dog if ya try and steal my bone, so to speak. take care of you. hopefully a better outcome awaits, my sincere prayers of healing to you both. jamie

Well it happened Hubby is in the deepest depths of depression and does not want to live like this anymore.  We saw his DR monday and we are awaiting a referral to UW hospital to begin ECT.  Our local hospital does not have anyone that performs ECT so we have to travel.  He is scared but would rather try than suffer any longer.  The DR said there are no more meds to try and this is our last hope.  The physician I would like to get into up there specializes in adult drug resistant depression and is the director of the adult inpatient psychiatrict unit in addition to being a faculty member of the UW college.  He takes part in trials as well so maybe there is some hope there too.

I am hoping to hear sometime early next week about our referral and hopefully have our consultation late next week to get this ball rolling.

Any prayers are appreciated!!

I am hoping for the best and that it works. He at this point feels as if he has nothing to lose.......he can't continue to live this way. My fear if it doesn't work is that he will take measures into his own hands.

jenn, i hope things improve and that the treatment works. sounds like dh may require an inpatient admission at this time. my thoughts and healing prayers are with you. jamie
