Hi, finally got around to joining a group or forum and getting my life back on track. I'm not shy at getting things done but I have NO money to get professional help. None. Not any. Nadda. I literally have slightly under $3.00 to my name. I've been fighting depression for a few years now. It was the main reason for me losing my job in August this year. I was living in Washington State the last 25 or so years. I got fired from my hotel management job this August so I decided to move closer to my family in Arizona - they do not know how bad my depression gets some times and I've only told a few. I love my family very much but coming out and telling everyone would not in any way be a good idea. I'm 45, gay and in good general health so the state programs are refusing to do anything to help. I'm staying with a younger sister and have been religiously looking for work but after almost two months... still nothing. Yikes! After 8 weeks I still am not getting unemployment - I have not received a denied or accepted answer but I am filing each week as directed - so.... I am really broke. I have been surfing the net trying to find a way to get medical help for my problem but have hit a road block. Where do you go when you don't qualify for state aid, have no money, can't rely on family and need medical help? I am new to this whole scene and just don't know what to do. This is the best country in the world, right? Any ideas would be great. I'm afraid this depression is going to push me over the edge.

ccm, sorry mate. i guess your not here in australia, thus firstly welcome to the forum. your sexual preference to me is not of a concern, nor should it be to anybody else!! hey i was unemployed for 15 months straight at one point. you are an articulate chap, keep your head up okay, in this climate, no matter where ya from finding work is darn tough. i am very sure that people will awake and advise you of ways and means to getting by. sorry that you are depressed, you need to see a doc, and some aid if you need meds my friend. i am not in a good space tonight, an act of stupidity, thus i will leave it for now. i wish you compassion and hope dearly that it comes your way soon. keep well and safe, and hold your head high my friend. jamie, male, 37

Hi Ccm1964,

There are a lot of resources out there that we just don't know about.  Nobody tells us.  Have you checked with your local social services office for help?  If you are not working, you should qualify for something.  Maybe you would get a compassionate social worker to help you out.

I am sure if you search the internet, you will find more.  Also the mental health facilities often have a sliding scale to help people in need.  Check into that.  It sounds like you could use some support right now and we are here, but we are not professionals.  Just fellow depression sufferers.
