anyone taking Lamictal for depression?

When I checked myself into the hospital they put me on a mood stabilizer. Athough I don't understand why.. they told me I have major depression and anxiety. Isn't Lamictal strictly used for bipolar as a mood stabilizer?

Not anymore. Several mood stabilizing drugs have been shown to be effective in helping drug-resistant depression as well, usually in conjunction with an anti-depressant (SSRI). Lamictal has the most "anti-depressant" action of all the anti-seizure mood stabilizers. Abilify is also being used more and more.

I see. I take it at night and then 50 mg of setraline(zoloft) in the morning. I guess it makes sense.. i just feel like it makes me really tired.

I've been on lamictal for about three months now "300mg"...I also take 80mg strattera.

I was taking Cymbalta before switching over to Lamictal, the sexual side effects of Cymbalta were too severe (I was impotent)...Dr. decided to try Lamictal in hopes of regaining my drive, so far there is has been "little" improvement...maybe I need more than three months?

Anyway haven gone through withdraw of Cymbalta and slowly easing into a therapeutic level Lamictal has been total hell.

Well my Lamictal experience was bad... Docs had to pull the plug on the drug. I had an allergic reaction, broke out in hives all over. As for me and Lamictal I was taking it for a seizure disorder and I'm also finding out that I'm depressed.

Therer are other mood stabilizers that you can try. I wish you luck with this. I know that it is hard on the medication merry go round. But you will find what it right for you. I am sure.
