Hello everyone this is my first post. Well like the subjecting heading says I have depression and also a seizure disorder. So me and depression started off officially earlier this year when I was diagnosed. Since then a lot of things have happened. I stopped going to college due to a seizure I had at school. I haven't gone back to finish the 2 classes I needed to graduate. I have a lot of emotional issues attached to me not going back.

Its been paralyzing at times. Sometimes I just feel like giving up completely, for example me stop going to school. It also makes me feel like I don't exist like if I'm a ghost... I think thats the worse it makes me feel so distant, detached and lonely from anyone and everyone I know. I can't sleep and I just feel burnt out.

I'm still coming to terms with it and I'm trying to take the necessary steps to improve my condition. I've talked to my Docs about it and they put me on meds for it. I'm taking Zoloft, and (Depakote, Dilantin, Zonogram) for my seizures.

Any suggestions or insights?

hi ratfink,

  1. i would see your doc about accessing a personal support worker so you can finish school.
  2. my lady suffers from seizures quite badly, and can be very clonic as well. she has a support worker at school and when we go out. she alike you is on a lot of epeleptic medication.
  3. there are different types of seizure meds, some of the older ones are very productive for people whom suffer from epilepsy, these being tegratol, epilim and sodium valporate.
  4. depression and any illness impacts on us greatly, thus maybe a change is warranted, and or an increase?
  5. a brain study may also be warranted, as you know depression and epilepsy is no fun, thus finding the right treatments is paramounted.
  6. hard i know but the less stress, the less seizing, i know that this not conducive for all, but with a decrease in stress my lady has not had a seizure with me on our fri nights out for over 2 years now. yes she has a shunt, and is plegic done one side due to a stroke at the tender age of thirteen, and yes she goes to school as well!!

Hi there,

You have gotten some great advice from our wonderful members.  I too would like to welcome you to the forum.  You have come to a good place to find support and information. 

I agree on trying to finish school.  Now that you have your seizures under control, could you go back?  I hope so, you were so close to graduating. 

I hope that you feel better soon.  Keep posting, this is a hard time of year for all.  Especially people with depression.  Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.
