Trying Remeron-can anyone help me with some questions

my pdoc precribed it for severe dep and anxiety. First week 30mg, second 1,5 weeks. 45mg-max. I feel quite stoned or stunned like i'm in a cloud conecentration not good, and I start to panic. Its Christmas .... I also experience dizziness. Now I did not have these symptoms before I started to take this. Has anyone who has taken Remeron or is it-experience this- will these side effects disappear!! I need mental clarity. can anyone honestly help me with their experience. My marriage is on the line and have been off work for almost 2 years.

I didn't experience any of those symptoms while on Remeron. In fact, it did nothing at all for me.

Have you discussed this with your doctor? How long have you been taking it? Most AD meds take 6-8 weeks to reach a therapeutic level.

I only took remeron for a short period of time, it made me too sleepy. But doesn't do that to everybody.

I felt sleepy, dazed & very dizzy when I started Remeron. They did get a little bit better, but they were not as horrible as the side effects from other anti-depressants I had tried so we struck with it for about 7-8 months. At the worst, my doctor wrote me for AntiVert for that sea sick/room tilting feeling & for Provigil for the dazed feeling. They both helped -- though I hated having to take medications to treat side effects of other medications.

Sorry I don't have a more positive story for you. Because I have hypothyroidism, I can't take antidepressants anymore (wish I would have known that a long time ago). All I can suggest is: try to put up with the side effects for as long as you can. Usually it is 3-6 weeks (from what I've seen & heard) for any side effects that are going to lessen/go away to lessen/go away. Try to give it that long if you can manage. If things just get too, too awful talk to your prescribing doctor.

If you don't even think the Remeron is helping, know that there are a lot of other medications out there. Most people need to try 3 different anti-depressants before finding one that works, so hang in there. If you think it's working great, ask what they can recommend for the side effects. Please be sure to ask, even if your preference is to use OTC products as sometimes they don't mix well.

One other option to consider is acupuncture. I've had some good luck with it for dizziness. I've also gone for insomnia. There are some treatments they can do to help you get a better night's sleep. Maybe better sleep at night would also help combat daytime drowsiness.

As for the anxiety... I'm wondering if you are trying to fight the drowsiness with caffeine -- sodas, chocolate, etc. If so, that could be the cause of your increased anxiety. In any case, take several deep breaths. It will be okay. There are ways to treat all your symptoms. Call your doctor & let him/her know what's going on.

We have had so many members post about their successes a few months after they had almost given up hope. Psych meds seem to so complicated to get the right kind of at the right dose. And sometimes no matter what 2 or 3 meds are required to get someone stabilized (then, sometimes, after a while the doctor will allow them to stop 1 or 2 of the meds).

Thanks for your replies. I started at 30mg for one week, and pdoc bumped me to 45mg for a week and 4 days. He thinks 30mgs will not be strong enough for me. I don't drink colas, have had more chocolate though-late night muchies-chocolate chip cookies and hot chocolate. This is my 10th drug I have tried. I first one that I had suceess with was Paxil-that was 15 years ago. Worked very well until my first year off marraige when it popped out either due to many stressors or it just stopped working. It felt like a was just taking a vitamin or something. Anyway I really hope this helps me on my road to recovery. The stoned feeling hasn't been as bad today. I know that anxiety/depression can cause dizziness and that foggy feeling. My pdoc just sd 2/3 of people who take Remeron-these side effects will disappears-hes not sure about the stoned feeling. He also sd tiredness and appetite will stay. Unless anyone can tell me otherwise. I don't want to have to try of the older Monoamione oxidizzers-ie. Nardil/Parnate etc. I know they cause insomnia and have dangerous food and drug interactions.

 

Frances are you stilll taking Remeron?

Sorry Frances I just read your comment again-you sd you can't take anti-depressants because of your hypothyroidism
