hi skeye, jamie here. yes i have had ECT, notice that the 'S' is missing? because it is electric convulsive therapy. yes i too am very resistant, and yes been on the med merry-go-round for over 20 yrs. i had ECT in 2004. a round of treatment starts of at 6. some do more, this is dependant of how you recover to the first round. 6 is usually broken up over 5 days. the treatments for me became very effective over a period of time, around 3 months, and i was very well for 1 year.
ECT endeavours to awaken the neural pathways be stimulating the synapes in the brain, the procedure is around 1.5 seconds, you are out to it at the beginning and when you awake. most people awake groggy, and sometimes with a sore head, albeit this passes. some residual memory loss is common, and is generally short term, i came good after a fortnight.
it is an effective treatment for severe and resistant depression. a lot of people knock it, not me as it saved my life. hoping this helps. please post if i can be of help. jamie.
ps the seizure is tiny, slight tremers in fingers and toes. people assume that we have a grand mal seizure!! we don't! take care. with compassion, jamie.
