Things haven't been feeling so great.

Hello, I'd like to start off by saying that I'm currently 15, if that makes any difference whatsoever.

I have had depression for a year, halfway through grade nine (first year of high school) it started. It started off as barely anything, but then it gradually became something that happened frequently. It would strike me; a state of where I would become overwhelmed with bad thoughts and feelings. Then, most nights I would just let them seep down and overcome my body and I would listen to sad songs and melodies. It came to the point where everyday after dinner I would fall into one of these 'depression attacks' I called them, but I held it inside and told no one for months.

Just recently, about 3 months ago I told my parents for the second time about my depression, and accepted their request of taking me to a doctor (the first time I told them about it, I refused to go to one). The difference between the first time and the second time I told my parents, is in between the time I was having (although never told my parents). Once I told my family doctor about it (and only him), he became very worried and put me on Cipralex 10mg everyday. I was on that for about 8 weeks, where it helped a little bit. Its peak affect was about 5-6 weeks, but then it suddenly started to decrease in effectiveness in my body.

Now, just starting this week I was given the choice to either double my Cipralex dose to 20mg per day, or have a mix with another drug. I chose to mix the drugs, which turns out that the other drug, Wellbutrin, was going to be mixed in for a 150mg daily dose. I am just starting using both drugs at the same time.

I created this thread to ask a few questions;

1. Have you ever had experiences with either Cipralex or Wellbutrin? Please explain.

2. Any experiences with the combination?

and most likely the biggest question I need help with,

3. Should I tell my parents about I haven't had them in a while, but I've left them in the dark about a lot of the things that go on in my head, but it just feels so embarrassing to me. Am I just lost with this question.

Thanks for your quick reply (and reminding me about the rules).

I have always dismissed the thought of counseling because I am very self-conscious about things and I have always thought that simply talking about things wouldn't make much of a different - 

And on top of that, I feel very embarrassed to talk anyone but a professional doctor or psychologist who I know would never tell anyone else and keep my information in full confidentiality who will be able to help me with their information after I have given me my information. This is also why I have yet to really tell my parents much about my situation at all. I feel that they can't really help at all, and that if I told them it would change my relationship with them and make it harder for me to talk to them afterwords.

i agree with karen with counselling and also remember that depression is alike any other medical condition, because it is one. remember that we are here for you, we all have it, and have been there, so to speak. keep being brave my friend, with compassion, jamie.
