how to deal with the inlaws

I have been married 20 yrs...I had the best parents....and they died....My mother in law has been so mean to me for a very long time....
I sometimes get so upset about what she says...My husband is like a little puppet when it comes to her..The relationship between her
two boys,more like they are strangers. no way you could ever rely on them , even if you were in desperate need. We rely more on our
friends. When my husband ..their son had surgery , they could not care less....but my husband does not see this. I know they are his parents
but they are so selfish. Any advice? My parents were so different , they would have done anything for us. As I would now do for my children.
Anyone else in the same boat? And how do you deal with it? Without feeling so hurt?

My husband's family is the same... so much so that when I was pregnant, his sister threw my stuff into the street 600 miles from home, because she got mad when I wouldn't spend time with her. She was 32 at the time... I was 18... guess who was the adult? His mom hasn't spoken to him in 5 years, and she's never seen her 2 grand children.

Honestly, there is nothing you CAN do. You need to understand that not all families treat each other the way that yours did, and then go from there. Not all families are concerned about the other members openly as other families are. Can't rely on his side of the family? Then don't even think about it. My husband's family isn't supportive, but it doesn't matter because when it comes down to it, we'll find support elsewhere. We pretty much just ignore his family at this point since all they're good for is drama.
