Anyone on Celexa

Iam asking anyone who takes Celexa what their experience has been. My son was just prescrbed this med. He doesn't know it is an a/d med, the dr. just told him he had to take it every day. From what I have heard it can cause drowsiness, weight gain, insomnia, low sex drive, dizzyness, blurred vision. He has a high stress very busy job. He works 12 hour days. He has a lot of anxiety but I don't think he is depressed. I don't see how he will be able to drive to his job early in the morning and go through a whole day especially if he feels sleepy. I am going to have him talk to the dr. before taking this. I don't think it is a good med for someone who needs to be so alert and deal with some difficult clients all the time. Would really like to hear what others have experienced from this med.

Hi Jamiee, when you sat yeah do you mean that you take this med? if you do Iam wonering what the side effects are for you. I know one that seems to be one that affects all men is they sexual dysfunction. I know my son will not like that. Also I read it can cause drownsiness, tremors, yawning, insomnia, poor concentration, blurred vision among other things. I don't think my son is depressed. So I will have him give the dr. a call about the med. I don't want him to take something that can affect him so negatively and take 6-8 weeks to work and then I hear you have trouble getting off of it. Please let me know what you know.

Thanks Jamiee & Karen, one thing I know NOT to do anymore is go on the internet

and read all the nightmarish things people say about meds. There are a few good sources but I actually talked to the pharmacist when I picked up my son's meds and was given a lot of info. He will try it. If the side effects are too much then he can call his dr. and switch to another med. I just got worried because that is what moms do, worry about their kids no matter their age.

Hi Aurora. Your son is very lucky to have such a caring mom and I'm sure he realizes this. In regards to the Celexa this was the drug that I was initially put on about ten years ago when my depression was diagnosed. I was only on for about 2 months because I could not stand the twitching of my legs and neck. I was so uncomfortable that my therapist finally took me off because I was going to stop taking meds entirely. But this was just me, everyone has different reactions to medications. Hopefully, it will work out for your son.
