Advice on my situation

I'm hoping someone can offer a thought about my situation. I'll try to keep it simple. I lost my job just more than a year ago. At the time I was on Lexapro for depression. I have used up all my retirement money to survive. I feel incredibly guilty, among other things, my older son's choices of colleges were severly limited by my unemployment.

I have no resources left, cannot find a job and am avoiding homelessness only by staying with a friend. I am now being sued by creditors and cannot even come up with the bankruptcy filing fee. The crazy thing is I have professional abilities in two fields. I am not on medication, which I needed even when employed, because the local low-cost clinic for some reason contines to demand paperwork I simply do not have-I have no pay stubs because I have no job and no unemployment. I made decent money til' July of last year, but since then nothing but my retirement savings. I lost a contested unemployment hearing, the hearing examiner would not allow me to introduce some evidence. The examiner simply believed them, despite the face I had worked for the company for 12 years without a single personnel action, til' all of a sudden, I was a rotten employee.

I've had several interviews lately, but still can't get a job.

I earn a small amount from freelance work but I find it increasingly difficult to concentrate and even earn a couple hundred a month. I have to believe my age  is playing a role in not finding work-and my career area is suffering a severe downturn as well. I also no whave no car, so my interview area is very limited (I can borrow a car for short distances). Almost all the jobs I qualify for would require a car and I have no idea how I could get one beofre I got my first paycheck-even if I found a job.

I am depressed, alone and simply don't know what to do. I have no health insurance.

firstly, welcome to the forum, i always forget.

i am very sorry about your situation. i feel that it is vital

that you get your meds somehow. since i am unsure of

your location i am limited. i am in australia. it seems

imperative that you get some much needed assistance.

may i suggest your local mental health centre? if i am

barking up the wrong tree then pls advise. some centres

can assist with meds, even here. i feel some on-referal is

required. maybe seeing a social worker from your human

services centre-or equivalent of.

i can see from your post that you are trying real hard.

been in your situation somewhat, but i am fully aware of how

trying it is when you are really trying. i am glad that you

reached out for support here. i am sure that you will

receive wonderful info when people from your location

see your post. pls know that we are here for support. i

too want to go back to work, it has been over 10 yrs, am

on a disability support pension.

I am sorry for your situation. Have you tried to get on assistance like food stamps, etc......? Your medical needs need to be taken care of. My husband and I are going through bankruptcy right now. A dear friend is paying our lawyer and filing fees. My husband was out of work for 6mos and we used up every penny, plus borrowing (he could not get unemployment either) . We are losing our home. It's hard to be positive in any way, isn't it? I'll pray for you....that has seen us through our ordeal. I hope you get work soon. I would ask everywhere - hospitals, social services etc.... for help. You need to be taken care of.

Sorry to hear of your difficulties. Can you appeal your case? That's a tough break.

If you are in the US, 2 years after you are on Disability you get Medicare, no matter who you are. Long time to wait. But you never know how bad you might need it 2 yrs from now. File for Disability ASAP, they will back pay you from the date you first file. It may take 6 mos or so. I got $4000.

Also, Google Free meds, or Patient Assistance, they have a lot of suggestions.

Check websites of Pharm co your meds are made by. They often offer assistance if you have no insurance, no Medicare with no or limited income. Free. Do it soon, it takes time. Can be done Online.

Don't know but isn't there Public Assistance for situations like yours?

If you can get a pdoc they will give samples sometimes if you ask.
Don't give up.

Public assistance is welfare, foodstamps,Medicaid etc
Probably won't get you free Lexapro due to cost, so try Free Meds and PAP - Google them
You can file for bankruptcy on your own or go to Legal aide, there is no filing fee, I put it on Yahoo-just ask, personal finance, and that is what people answered me.
Don't forget, Yahoo-just ask, and Google - just type in your question

What paperwork are you having such difficulty with?

Hope you are somewhat encouraged, and feeling a tad better.

Thank you to all. I really appreciate it.

I feel a bit better and I will certainly look into some of the suggestions. I don't know how tro explain the paperwork issues. I have explained, in writing, that I have only occassional freelance income, not a regular paycheck. I have printed out a record of those payments (less than $400 a month0, but they apparently don't accept that at the clinic. I don't know how else to explain it to them.

Also, I did get a response to a job application today saying that they would call next week about a possible interview. Of course, I've gotten my hopes up before.

That's great news about a possible interview. Its hard not to get your hopes up, but try and think positive about yourself and your skills.

I see about the paperwork. It might be that you were self-employed. How about your tax return, do you have any W-2s there?
