I have heard of this because a friend of mine's daughter does this...but I never understood it. I couldn't figure out what someone gets out of it. So I just googled it and I found this below. It had some tips which I'm not sure whether or not it would help what you are going through but thought it couldn't hurt to post it.
I wish you all the best with finding peace in your life.
The biggest issue with endorphins. Most people don't connect the 2 when they cut. They think that the is what makes them feel better, when in most cases it's simply the endorphins - which a can become addicted to.
If you're a and you're like to stop, here are a few things that you can try. If you know a cutter who is
open and willing to talk about
it, bring up these things:
Wear a rubber band around your wrist. Not a tight one, one that fits just a little snug. Every time you feel the need to, simply snap the rubber band. This is basically a way to wean yourself , almost like the patch or gum for smokers. You still get the pain, which releases endophins, but you're not cutting into your own skin - which not only leaves scars, but can cause damage as well.
Eat a little bit of DARK chocolate everyday. Not a lot, just a little. Dark chocolate is known to release endorphins. Which is probably why women often crave chocolate when we're emotional. If you like hot or spicey food - eat a hot pepper. Hmmm - that could be a reason why it seems like so many men like hot foods!
Get scared - watch a horror movie that you know is really scary, read a horror book, if you're interested in ghosts you can even find out if there is a local ghosts investigation group that you might be able to join - this may not be a quick fix, but if you go on investigations and your heart races you're naturally releases the endorphins.
Get moved by something - this is for those who love nice art work, or poetry, even those old movies that they don't make any more. Then you're emotionally touched and moved by something it gives you the feel good attitude. If you're the type of person who likes to help others (people or animals) you can even volunteer your time somewhere once a week.
Exercise - ever hear of "runners high"? Wonder how come those who run or exercise are seriously into it? It releases endorphins. When you get upset, go for a run or jog until you can't run or jog anymore, do jumping jacks until you can't jump, if you're by yourself turn on some music with a good beat and dance until you can't dance. Heck, you can even clean until you have to sit down and take a breath. If you have a dog, take it for a walk - animals can also help make us happy and calm us down, so this is a 2 for 1 deal.
Gossip. And we all thought those people were just being rude and immature!
For some odd reason, when you gossip it releases endorphins. Probably because humans love to hear bad things about
others .... who knows why. If you have a friend who loves to gossip, or a family member, give them a call. You don't even have to tell them why you're calling. Just talk to them and let them do what they do naturally - gossip!
