Hello, Pbotha0, and welcome to the forum,
If you have been diagnosed with bipolar illness, you should, in my view, go back to see a psychiatrist as soon as it is convenient for you and request to be placed on one of the newer medications that restore the chemical imbalance.
It is known now that bipolar illness is an inflammation of the brain and
that aspirin will relieve the symptoms. Scientists don't know yet what
causes the inflammation, but there are steps you might wish to take
before your appointment with a new psychiatrist.
I'll give you the four "laws" that were given to me regarding care
for oneself:
1. Do not drink alcohol; it makes the illness worse.
2. Do not eat or drink anything that has caffeine in it: it makes the
illness worse.
3. Take your meds
4. Get your rest
Please understand that you really aren't losing your mind. You just
suffer from a chemical imbalance in the brain that can be corrected
with a teaspoonful of medication. Please see a specialist and take the appropriate medication to get that chemical balance restored.
You'll feel better just within days of being medicated.
You will likely hear from members of the forum early today with their recommendations. Please keep advising us of how you are progressing; we want to help if we can.
(I am the one who recommends changes in the diet after you are
stabilized on new meds. There are many foods which can be
helpful for calm feeling tone.)
Don't worry; you'll be fine with a new doctor and medication.
