Jamiee,
Not too many people know about this, and it isn't confirmed by any
doctor that I know of, but in bipolar illness I found that molybdenum,
a mineral supplement, helped stopped the manic episodes. It's an
over-the-counter product and available online at Vitamin Shoppe. It
may not work for everyone and can't be considered an official medication for mania, so you'll need to use your own judgment about whether to consider it or not. However, I took a 150 mcg. tablet on one occasion and found it so helpful that it calmed me in about 2 to 3 hours.
More research needs to be done on this mineral as an adjunct in helping bipolar patients when minor episodes of manic behavior begin, I think.
You might wish to do your own research in regard to this. I also found that it maintained a more stable blood glucose level in diabetes.
I emphasize, none of this has been clincially verified, but it worked
for me.
Your post on bipolar illness forum reminded me of this when you mentioned that you were having a manic episode.
Hope you're feeling better now.
