Hello all

This is my first time posting on this forum and I am hoping someone can offer me some encouragement! I just started taking cymbalta 2 days ago for depression and anxiety. I have suffered with this on and off for years (I am 29 yr old female) but it has gotten horrible in the past year to the point that I have no interest or motivation to do anything. My hubby and kids are suffering from it :( I have gained 50 pounds and just feel blah.

So the cymbalta...I have noticed right away that my mood is slightly elevated and I have more energy...but I feel more anxious! My brain is racing, I feel like I could just pace around my house. My stomach is upset (I have a scrip for zofran and that seems to help a bit). I keep clenching my jaw...I just feel weird. No appetite (which is good I guess). I guess I just want to ease my mind and hear if anyone has had similar experiences and if it will stop!

Hi Aswifey,

I'm not sure about the cymbalta, but I am sure that not eating will only exacerbate your problems. While coping with depression, you don't need to be worrying about malnutrition as well.

It will get better. Wellbutrin has helped me. There will still be highs and lows (and, god, how unbearable the lows are), but the cymbalta should help to minimize the bouts with depression.

hi, jamie here. probably some s/e going on. takes around 6 weeks for a new med to kick in. hey things will pick up soon. keep your chin up. we are here for you.

have you considered therapy? helps me, esp with the medications. one day at a time aswifey. sending healing compassionate thoughts your way. and remember you are a unique and talented human being with gifts and talents unique to you. feel better soon. jamie

Jamie, yes I am in therapy too. I see someone individually and my husband and I go to a marriage counselor...we have for years...it really does help. I just started my individual therapy a couple weeks ago.

I am excited to feel better...just need to get past this part first I guess :)

I take cymbalta and I found it to be very helpful after about 2 weeks .... I also take effexor with it. Cymbalta is a great med it just takes about 2 weeks to fully kick in and do what it needs to do. good lluck with it. When you take any anti depressants sometimes the anxiety might get a little worse before better. I think u are just experiencing anxiety overall and maybe not necc from the cymbalta. give it at least 2 weeks and see how it works. U also might need it adjusted. see how it goes. good luck

Hi there,

And welcome to the forum. I am so glad that you have joined in. It takes a couple of weeks for the side effects to go away and about six weeks for the med to reach it's full potential. Though you might feel better sooner than that. I hope that it works well for you. Give it some time.
